Posting that yesterday did the trick. I came home to work to find the approval letter waiting for me. It was dated 4 December. Not sure why it took two weeks to arrive.

Congratulations!

Two weeks?  That is a long time, even for second class.  Maybe it got mixed up in all the holiday post.  I know my local post office has been really crazy this month with all the packages and cards being sent.

Oddly, the location for the ceremony is a different council from both the one I live in and the other council I used for NCS (South Lanarkshire). My office is in this 3rd council and the ceremony location is like a 5 minute walk from the office. So maybe the Home Office is now using people's job location to schedule ceremonies.

Basis:  5 years (T2 General for 5 + ILR for 1)
Applied through NCS:  19 Aug 2015
Application received by Home Office: 20 Aug 2015
Payment deducted: 1  Sep 2015
Letter requesting biometrics: 7 Sep 2015 (dated 01 Sep 2015)
Biometrics taken: 8 Sep 2015
Approval received: 18 Dec 2015 (dated 4 Dec 2015)
Congrats! What a nice Christmas present!

One question, does anyone know how long they keep your documents? My husband is without his driving licence as well as passport. I've read about the request for return of documents, just wondering if the driving licence will take until approval to come back. Tia

Congrats frankbrown!

I wonder if they scheduled your ceremony near your work because you were on a work visa. I was on a spouse visa and my ceremony was scheduled for the borough I live in.

Getting the letter on Friday was pretty fitting as it was my last day at my employer who sponsored my T2 general visas and paid for my ILR. It was very much like the chapter of my life for the past 6.5 years came to an end at once.

I had my ceremony last Thursday, applied for my UK passport straight after the ceremony and today, just a week later, I received my US passport and UK naturalisation certificate back. I'd paid the extra £3 for them to be returned via secure delivery, but I wasn't expecting them back so soon.

No info on the first passport interview. Hopefully that letter will be waiting at home for us when we get back from Christmas. ;D

What if your acceptance letter gets lost in the post, would they chase you up to arrange the ceremony?

Also you get the approval letter, do you documents get returned in the same envelope?

Hi all. It's been a long time. :)  Happy New Year!

Could someone please tell me how much citizenship costs - the application, British passport, etc. - the whole shebang. I looked at the HO site, but got a bit confused (as per usual!). I think the application is £906, but not sure of other costs.  I'm hoping to apply in the next month or so.  Also, I assume this may increase in April/May? Thank you.

She couldn't help thinking that there was a little more to life, somewhere else.
After all it was a great big world, with lots of places to run to.
And if she had to die trying she had one little promise she was gonna keep.

It cost me £1,005.00 plus whatever it costs to register the biometrics, about £18 iirc.

Welcome back, Fallgal!

Citizenship is £1,005 plus biometrics (£19.20).

Citizenship document checking service through your council is usually around £50-60 (depends on the council). With that, they'll point out any reason you're not eligible, any major errors or missing supporting docs and you get to keep your documents (including your US passport). Worth the money for the peace of mind if you can manage it.

Citizenship is set to go up 25% to £1,236 on 6 April, so I'd suggest getting your application in before then.

Got my citizenship throught today

Documents posted to Liverpool - 10th October
Documents received in  Liverpool - 12th October
Payment declined 27th October
Called them 27th October to explain and resubit - payment taken
Biometrics taken 5th December
Citizenship granted - 11th January (received 14th January).

Applied for it in married name even though passport/biometrics are in maiden name.  They've granted it in married name but have advised that before I apply for my British Passport, I must update my US passport to my married name.

 :o

I had just started looking into this again and printed off the forms/guidelines last week-- but this fee hike is definitely the kick up my lazy bum that I need to motivate me to get the application filled in!

Thanks Shandy (and congrats!) and TravelingFrog!

Sheesh, everything is so expensive. You'd think at this point, they'd give us a little break, no?  Guess not.  ::)

I stupidly thought the passport came with the citizenship.  Why would I think that?  ??? ::)  Dumb of me - or wishful thinking.

Pickled - looks like you and I both need to get off our butts and get the application submitted!   It *is* exciting to think that after this step I am DONE DONE DONE! :D
