So sorry to be so stupid - what is appendix 2?  Do we need to fill something in?  At least we have the opportunity to provide them with additional info and they haven't just dismissed it.

Appendix 2 was explained above and I linked to it.

It is the second half of your application form - the online application is only a basic, generic form about the applicant and is the same for all visa applications.

The specific application form for a spousal visa is called VAF4a Appendix 2. It covers all the questions specific to applying for a spousal visa and it's where you state how you meet each of the requirements, along with which financial requirement category you meet.

Your application cannot be processed without it.

I am going to assume they were happy with the financial requirement (sent 7 months of bank statements, on bank letter headed paper, stamped and signed by the bank).  Sent a letter from the company stating that we are living in company housing and have been for years.  We had to send copies of our residence permits and our company IDs.

Did you also include evidence that you, the sponsor, will have guaranteed employment in the U.K.?

Either:

- your current job continuing in the U.K.
Or
- a job offer in the UK that pays at least £18,600 per year and starts within 3 months of you moving home

Quote
You can't live in Saudi unless you are sponsored - it is a closed country.

And to be married here you have to have your marriage certificate translated into Arabic, and attested by the Saudi Embassy in the country where it was issued.  So the fact that I am here and have been for years must carry some weight????  They do not allow visitors etc unless they are sponsored.  The country is a closed country and not easy to get into. We sent a couple of photographs of our wedding.

Your immigration status in Saudi has nothing to do with the visa application - other than your spouse being allowed to apply in Saudi. You being there for years will carry no weight at all, except for the fact that you live together there.

What you need to show is:
- genuine relationship
- suitable UK accommodation
- either: previous 12 months income of £18,600 in total AND future UK income of £18,600 or more per year
- or: 6 months of income at £18,600 salary AND future UK income of £18,600 or more per year

We are going the savings route (knew there had to be a reason for me being here 20 years!) and have sent 7 months worth of bank statements.  They haven't queried that so I think that should be OK.

The residence status here is just to verify we have been living together in a real relationship.  We don't have phone records etc.  They have only asked for the information on the property where we will be living so I am thinking everything else is OK?????????  But just in case we will add stuff to back up the real relationship thing.

I'll have a look at everything we have already submitted (we took copies) when I have calmed down.

I appreciate all the input. Cheers!

You're really lucky they gave you a chance to submit more paperwork!

If you haven't sent any relationship evidence, you should. Someone who was married for 20 years had her visa refused because she didn't include any (joint tax returns, wedding photos, etc.).

I sent wedding photos and confirmation that we will be buying a house in joint names (subject to contract).  And a letter from the company stating that they had seen our marriage certificate and that we have lived together in company housing since the marriage.

I will certainly send more evidence.

We are very lucky indeed!  I think they do not get many applications from here and it is being processed in Riyadh so the queue should be short.

Thanks for the help.

Ah, okay - in that case, the most recent 6 months of bank statements are all you need. If you're using savings, employer letters etc. won't even be looked at.

Since you live together, you aren't supposed to include phone records anyway (that's only for long-distance relationships).

So, instead you show evidence of living together in Saudi - tenancy agreements, utility bills, tax returns, things like that.

Company housing - no utility bills, no tax returns, no tenancy agreements.

So we are going to submit anything addressed to my husband from the company that has my name on it and the word "wife."  That will include medical appointments and repat travel forms.  We can show travel records when we travelled together.  Basically everything is going to be company based.

With them not querying it, and with them being based in Riyadh, I think they understand the situation.  That is why we got the company to state we were in company housing etc.

Surely they would have asked if there were other queries???  But even so, we will stick as much evidence in as we can.

Yes, what you've sent makes sense - we're just used to seeing US-based applications here on the forum :).

I would hope that they would have asked if there were other queries, but they don't always, so we can't say for sure.

It's hit and miss whether they contact you at all - they can just refuse the application outright instead of asking for the extra documents.

I'm taking the fact that they contacted us as a good sign - at least they haven't just dismissed it.  Thanks for saying my post made sense - I appreciate the comment as everything is just insane!  Hopefully this is the last hurdle.

Thanks for the support.

I've got a letter coming from a Chartered Surveyor in the UK.  He is confirming that the flat meets requirements.  Looking at the email from the ECO, it uses the word "attested."  Will the letter, which will be original, on letter head, from a firm of Chartered Surveyors, with a signature, be enough.

If not - then we haven't got time to do anything else.  It will take until Thursday/Friday for this letter to get to us.  Then we have to get it to Riyadh.  And we have until the beginning of next week to do this.

Really not sure what it means by 'attested' - when I did a Google search, it just came up with people in the same situation as you, being asked for it by UKVI... and it seemed to just be a Property Inspection Report.

Did they specify that it had to be mailed? Or can you email them a scanned copy?

I know people here on the forum applying from the US have been asked to email their extra documents, but I'm not sure if it's the same for other countries.

We were told to send the document to Al Khobar Riyadh.  This makes it even more interesting because Al Khobar is a city and Riyadh is a city - and they are not close together.  The bloke in the Centre where my husband had his biometrics done and where he submitted the application is in Al Khobar and he said he could drop any additional documents off to them there.  But .......  the centre handles a few different country biometrics etc, and there is no phone number, and you can't actually get into the centre without your passport - which, of course is with his application in Riyadh.

All we can do is go with what we have.  We will find an address in Riyadh and have it couriered to them there.  Husband is on the phone to the visa people, with credit card in hand right now.

We can't do anymore.

Thanks everyone.

For Info:

Spoken to the advisor on the telephone.

An original document does not need to be attested. Copies need to be attested as proof of original. Copies of certificates need to be attested.

If they have asked for additional evidence/clarification, they will will not ask for further evidence/clarification.  Basically - if it isn't in the email they will not ask for more.
