Wales is awesome. Cars are awesome. Yay, everything!
« on: June 19, 2018, 01:06:38 PM »
I am home from today's outing with my new car.  I'm poor because I just bought the car and paid for a year of insurance a week and a half ago, and I swore off spending too much money for the rest of the month... But it turns out that it's okay being poor, because I live in Wales.  I just spent £27.20 today.  For £27.20, I got a much-needed haircut, some shower gel, a few groceries, and four 1.25L sugar-taxed Coke.  My last haircut, from a salon in Wilton two years ago, cost me more than I spent on everything today.  I love here.

I popped into Waitrose yesterday.  Only needed to get gluten-free soy sauce.  Figured I'd get my husband some gluten free beer for the World cup.  Only bought one bag of stuff in total.  £30.  HOW??!?

I think it's because you don't live in Wales.  I spent less and came away with a haircut in the deal.

It does rain a lot, though.  *wrinkled nose*  We get good days, but not as many as the other side of GB.

True, true.  And when the sun does come out, it's a magical place.  I remember a few years ago, my husband said, "We should look for a house in Wales."  And I was all, "But Fraaaaaance!" (I was going to get citizenship, then we were going to move to the south of France.)  But now we live here, and it's so affordable, and lush, and happy... We totally made the right decision.

I go to your neighborhood for a holiday!  You are next to the greatest beaches in the whole country.  I'm happy that you are grateful though.

Have you been to the famous poet's boathouse?  That town seemed awfully nice.

I haven't,  but now that normal life can finally resume (my husband is home throughout the week, etc.), we can start doing some proper exploring.

Whereabouts in Wales are you. I’m in the early stages of planning my move back from Seattle and am seriously considering mid-wales ( it helps that my sister lives there, near Newtown)

We're in the southern part of Carmarthenshire.  Kind of between Llanelli and Carmarthen.  Mid-Wales (Powys region?) is arguably prettier than where I live, but we wanted to be close to the M4 for better job prospects.  Plus, we're a very short drive to one of the most beautiful and expansive beaches I've ever been to.

If you don't need to be near a lot of job prospects, I heartily recommend checking out the area along the coast between Aberystwyth and Barmouth (directly west of where your sister lives).  It was a bit too out of the way for us, but it is stunningly beautiful up there.  Mountains on one side of you, sea on the other, and it's green and lush everywhere.  Plus, the coast railway, because trains.

Every. Damn. Time. I pop into M&S or Waitrose I end up spending a fortune as I always see pre-marinated meats and stuff that sounds excellent and I think "One of these as a treat will be finneee" until i get to the checkout...OOP.
