VERRYYY late to this party but YES!! Even when there's  so many positives going on or exciting stresses, stresses are still stresses and it can be hard to see or think clearly while trying to balance all of these. I can usually handle stress okay, but when it mounds it can feel like you're drowning and I've totally felt like I've hit points where I just couldn't even fight the tide anymore.

Try to just breathe and focus on the most important things that *have* to be done before you head off. Everything else you can manage is just an added bonus! Just keep thinking "what's the worst that happens?? Things are replaceable. Pack the most sentimental items on your carry-on and then think about how if the absolute worst happens, you'll have your passport and sentimental items...Everything else can be replaced or you can wait for them.

You'll be fine. You can do this!.

I have 2 big pieces of luggage, my carry-on, and my purse. Purse is the most important...It will have my wallet, SS Card, Passort, Money, etc..Carry on has my laptop, my wedding dress (i had to fold it  [smiley=bigcry.gif] ) and a couple other sentimental things. I am SOOO ready!!!

And although you think there isn't time, make a little time every day to just relax. Find a nice place in a park and go sit there and watch the birds for 20 minutes. that sort of thing.

It'll help, in the long run! ;D

I am so excited to get to the UK and relax. I've spent the last 3 years working 2-3 jobs to save money for this move. I haven't had a break. When I'm in the inbetween finding a job and getting settled, I will have a lot of time to explore my new hometown. And relax!! I can't wait!

haha travelling a lot lighter than I did! My husband flew to me and we flew to the UK together (I am sh*t-scared of flying) and we took extra bags for me. I had something like 8 to 10 in total (including carry-ons) but I didn't ship anything so I fit everything I was taking into those bags. You should have seen the look on the Taxi's face when he turned up with a people carrier for two people and LOADS of stuff (including my snowboard even though it was October in the south of England hahah)

Just breathe. You are DEFINITELY ready indeed :D Don't lose your purse and you'll be perfectly fine!

So happy for you to just get over here and be able to relax!

You sound exactly like me. 2 checked bags, one overweight a carry on and a backpack that held my purse and electronics.

Best of luck with your flight!
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.

Good lord, I have more for my 11 night trip in Europe.  But kids.  I swear all I have is a change of underpants.

I guess I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist because I moved to England with my three-year-old son and all we had were two suitcases and my purse with documents.

When we left England to move to the US, I had one husband, three kids, four suitcases and one purse with documents.

When we move back, it will only be me and the husband. We are aiming for one suitcase and one purse with documents.

There’s something exciting to me to be able to completely let go of the stuff from your past and start fresh.

Further to that, there's only really dry slopes around this area! hahah Definitely couldn't be taking my snowboard down a dry slope! But maybe they thought I'd be getting a connecting flight to France or Scotland or something?

So agree with this. We sold everything when we moved from England to the States and just took our clothes. Did the same going back to England this time. I’m only visiting right now, but when I come back for good I’ll probably only have 2 bags. Most people have asked how we could possibly stand to sell all our furniture and give away so much stuff. It’s just stuff. There’s something so freeing about getting rid of all the stuff and starting fresh.

I knew an entire family of 5 that moved from Spain with no more than would fit in the car they were riding in.  They furnished a four bedroom house entirely by Free cycle and letting the neighbours know they were accepting furniture.  Funnily enough, their house looked pretty nice.
