Update on my boy
« on: February 24, 2019, 07:40:41 PM »
Day 7 of the flu and we are at a pediatric urgent care.

Did a flu test to confirm - definitely flu

Chest X-ray has diagnosed pneumonia

Full blood panel, low white blood cells and sugar

Having IV antibiotics, fluids, and sugars.  If he perks up we won’t need to go to the hospital.  Prayers and good wishes we avoid the hospital!

If he perks up we will come back daily for an antibiotic injection.

Doctor seems 50/50 on hospitalisation and if we will be okay to travel Saturday at this point.

Alllllllllll the good thoughts appreciated

And for what it’s worth, this place does not charge more than $450 no matter what treatment you have.

I hate that a simple flu vaccine could have prevented this.  Feeling a lot of guilt (the UK doesn’t vaccine under 2’s).  I wish I had found somewhere to give the vaccine, hadn’t flown, had taken him to this place earlier.  Everything.   :\\\'(

Whatever you do, don't blame yourself. Completely understand though.

You did everything right. You took him in once. You watched for worsening symptoms and took him back immediately when you noticed a change. There is nothing else you could have done differently.

Logically I know all that.  But it’s still hard.

Flu vaccine might not have stopped it, travel this time of year is hard. :( Don't be hard on yourself for not being able to get it for him. Blame the herd for not getting it when they easily could!

Travel insurance exists for a reason, and it's so nice they have a cap on their billing! I hope you manage to avoid the hospital and he starts feeling better quickly.

Luckily the vaccine seems to have worked for the rest of us.  We are just heartbroken to see him this way.

Oh, poor little boy! And poor you! It is always so hard seeing your child unwell. I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly. Sending hugs!

Thanks guys,  we were sent home thankfully.  Need to go back in 24 hours for more antibiotics.  Again on Tuesday.  Hopefully we can avoid a hospital stay.

My parents have been spoiling my little girl for which we are sooooo grateful.

Awww poor little guy! All my prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery. You have done, and are doing everything you can for him. Your feeling guilty is just more proof that you are a great parent.
