Nan, I had a leaflet through my door from my council.  One side is who to contact if you need help, the other to sign up to volunteer to help.  :D

Yea! I heard from our shipping company and he is saying that although things are changing daily, he expects he will still be able to get our stuff shipped via cargo container this summer.

So all we need at this point is to 1) make it to summer, 2) find a place to go for a potential self-quarantine there, if that's what's still going on then, and 3) get the estimator in to let him know the amount of stuff we are planning to take so he can get us a firmer quote. And, of course, 4) find a place to rent over there, probably without seeing it in person first (not liking that. May draft a friend or relative to go check it out.)

How things will be in three months, who knows. But at least there's some hope for us getting home!

Maybe rent a corporate apartment for a month or two, or however long you think it would take to find a permanent place?

Yeah, that's on the possible "do" list. Assuming there is still no quarantine requirements at the time and they have no problem with a potentially virus-laden set of travelers. Quite frankly, after a long international trip it takes me a few days to rest up anyway, so another week and a half won't hurt.  There's a nice place in the Poconos that I bet isn't having a lot of bookings right now....  ;D Assuming I can still rent a car.

I'm 99% sure my coworker is infected. She got sick while I was away so I wasn't contaminated directly by her but she is extremely sick. Fever, respiratory distress and she can only get a phone consultation with the GP. Her medication is not working and she is getting worse. She also has uncontrolled diabetes.  She can't be tested and she can't go to the hospital because there are 0 available beds in this area.

I talked to her on the phone today and she was really struggling to breathe. Hopefully she will call 999 if she gets any worse.

If she has uncontrolled diabetes, fever, and is having worsening trouble breathing, perhaps she should call 999 now so someone in the system knows she's sinking?

We've told her but she had a call from her GP today and honestly, the response is shocking. She needs to be in a hospital.

If it were me, regardless of what the GP said, I'd call 999.
There may not be a hospital bed, but there will inevitably be a waitlist for one.

We are also American. We have not been conditioned to just accept things as they are.

The EDS Society CEO was pissed she was released from the hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia and doctors 99% sure its Covid-19, but because it wasn't severe enough to need oxygen yet she wouldn't be tested and needed to go home and rest. She thought she'd get special treatment for having a rare disease, but they obviously don't have the resources for that.

I really hope your coworker calls Tami. If her lips or fingers have even a slightly blue tinge she needs oxygen. They will be setting up triage and wards wherever needed and shipping patients around pretty soon.

Unfortunately, there's a shortage of people able to do the testing and a shortage of one of the reagents.  :(

Tami, hopefully your co-worker has phoned hospital. Struggling to breathe is so scary.

KFdancer, sorry about your job, but you sound like you're going to be okay.

I've just been told to take the antibiotics and prednisone I was prescribed because now this has progressed to a cough. Officially quarantined and neither of us allowed out for another week at a minimum. This sucks. :(
