Happy first day! I hope this company treats you much more kindly than the last!

I'm still struggling with my hunt. The workplace is changing but attitudes towards disability and remote work on a semi permanent basis don't seem to be yet, and the market is so saturated if you don't have everything they are asking for you won't get an interview. My previous job set me so far back skills-wise because they lied to me that I no longer have what they want, and all the online training in the world won't compare to people who have been working with the enterprise level software for years. Feeling extremely worn down.

I've been thinking about you Margo because I know that right now the market is absolutely crazy.  There's a quarter of the jobs out there as this time last year and competition for every job is nuts.  Even the recruitment agents have been furloughed or made redundant.
I'm 3 weeks into my new job and everything is good except the salary, but I literally had no choice as there was nothing else going.
I really hope something comes through for you soon.

The only positive of being unemployed is I'd been on a lengthy waiting list for a pain management programme, and since they have to move it online and I'm allergic to life they put me at the top of it. So I'll be starting that next week for 8 weeks (only an hour a week plus homework). My anxiety has been completely uncontrollable because of the job market and isolation so having something regular to focus on will help.

I can't believe the government is relaxing social distancing while not sharing Covid-19 data with local authorities, not recommending everyone wear masks when out (only on public transport), and while we still have a few thousand cases daily. They really are creating a two tier society quickly of those who can risk catching it and those who know better or know their risk is too great.

Not to mention track and trace is a joke.  No problem though , cafes will take everyone's contact details!  Sort of like track and trace but done by the guy running the pub.

I had a very good and VERY busy first day!

Sadly my birthday cruise was officially cancelled today. I’ve learned to expect nothing at the moment so while I’m bummed, I knew it would happen and should be cancelled. So I’m staying 39 for another year!

Thank goodness we didn't decide to go back there. :o ::)

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/30/health/us-coronavirus-tuesday/index.html

With the current rate of increases, Los Angeles hospital beds will likely reach capacity within just a few weeks, said Dr. Christina Ghaly, Health Services Director. "The number of hospital beds could become inadequate in the next few weeks," Ghaly said. There are only enough ventilators in the county to last four weeks and Ghaly says the county's projections show a marked increase in mortality rates.
In Southern California's Riverside County, about 96% of all intensive care unit beds are in use, officials said Monday. Over the weekend, the county reported their ICU bed capacity reached 99%, largely due to taking in overflow from neighboring Imperial County. There are 370 ICU beds now in use, down 3% from the weekend.

And the Daughter's friends there are still going out to go shopping....

It is really difficult and such a personal decision. I was never a pub person anyways so it's easy for me to not be tempted. If it was dinner with a friend or something i enjoyed more, i would probably feel differently

The more things reopen with no one wanting to wear masks, the more it feels like I will never be able to leave the house again. No pubs for me, I couldn't breathe in them pre-covid. And restaurants are the highest risk environment next to pubs, so none of those either unless it's an outdoor table w/ the 2m social distancing and staff all wearing masks. I understand they wanted to get the economy back on it's feet, but I don't think this will go very well when they've seen in the US that parties and bars are the sources of new outbreaks.

I used to go to the pub every weekend with my brother in law. Really enjoy it, but I won't be going for the foreseeable future.

And from the American press:

Hopefully people will show some restraint. From what we've seen here in Glasgow, however, that is in very short supply.
