Stimulus money?
« on: April 15, 2020, 10:56:40 AM »
I just checked my US bank account...an extra $2206 just showed up. I have no idea what has happened to my tax return, but that was only going to be just over $1000........so I guess the other money was the stimulus?

This is awesome news :)

Could you tell us what/how you filed your tax return? We're trying to do it for the first time (Tre's only been here since October).

Thanks

I used TurboTax. But...since I started social security this year I had to mail the return instead of doing it online like I usually did. You can look at some past posts on here. Plenty of people with tax questions and answers. There are several sites like TurboTax that you can do your taxes through. I ended up sending in 2 copies of my taxes....one that included social security and one that didn't. Americans don't have to pay US tax on US social security here in the UK....but I will have to pay UK tax on it per the UK/USA treaty.

For those that will be getting a physical stimulus cheque then Trump insists that his name appears on the memo line. So, who would want to cash that cheque in, surely you would want to frame it.

I e-filed, no tax to pay/no refund as no withholding. Just for fun, I put my US account info on the form as though a refund was expected. Checked this morning, and voila, a pending deposit from the IRS for $2400 was shown for today.

Happy camper here. Hubby said he felt guilty as we are no longer in the US. I reminded him of how much tax we paid when we DID live there. He suddenly decided we did deserve the money.

The IRS used 2019 returns if they had been filed or 2018 if not.   If the taxpayer qualified and the IRS had their bank details in their system, they sent the stimulus payment via direct deposit.

I think the next round may be checks, but I'm not sure.

Hi everyone, hope y’all are doing good. Because I’m on my phone and can’t see all the comments I have a dumb question.  2018 I didn’t get a tax refund and had to pay, but my ex did my taxes and paid what I owed.  He hasn’t done this years taxes and I do have a new bank account since 2018.. I can’t change my details online so does that mean I may get a check ?

Hello everyone,
I am one of the people who is getting the following message when I try using the IRS Get my payment site.

"According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time."

Unfortunately, I didn't include my bank account information on my tax forms the past couple years as I really didn't have a reason to. So, if I am not able to get past the eligibility message, I won't be able to add my bank account and will have to wait and see if I get sent a check sometime in the next few months. Or if for whatever reason I am not sent any stimulus money even though I should qualify. They won't allow any calls at the moment so can't call them.
Has anyone else try using the site? I know it says to add your 5 digit zip code or postal code. Of course, my post code is longer then 5 digits, but don't know if that makes a difference or not and wanted to see if anyone else has tried using the site. I have already tried a few times with my full postal code and don't want to try again only to get kicked out for 24 hours for trying to often. Thanks.

I tried yesterday and got this message also. I used my UK postal code. Not sure what will happen for those of us who are in this situation.

I think the site was having issues yesterday (and possibly today). Everyone I know who didn't receive theirs yet was getting the same message.

I just spoke with my son this morning, he lives in Albuquerque and he hasn't had his stimulus check yet. He went on the site and got the same message as me. (I live in the uk). There's something wonky about it for sure.

I fear that either there is something going on with my tax returns, even though I returned them a couple months ago. Or I'll end up having to wait months to get a paper check in the mail, if it doesn't get lost or sent to the wrong address. Have tried again and am still getting the same message and on last try was told I need to try again in 24 hours. If anyone has success using the get my payment feature, how did you enter in your information. Thanks.

Just wondering, those of you that got it, do you réside in the UK? Just wondering if being in the UK makes one ineligible to receive the payment.
