Victoria's Secret is owned by Limited Brands which is an umbrella company for The Limited, Express, Victoria's Secret, Lane Bryant, and Bath & Body Works.  There may be a couple others I missed.  A friend worked for Lane Bryant in college, which is why I know.  They are very assuredly an American company.

edited to add their website: http://www.limitedbrands.com/main.jsp

(and apparently I was wrong about Lane Bryant, I could've sworn they were a Limited company....)

Lane Bryant was owned by Limited but it was sold in 2001 to Charming Shoppes which also owns Fashion Bug and Catherines. I only know because I shop there WAY too much.  :)

Thank you!  I'm glad to know I'm not going completely insane.

Hmmm - just two weeks ago I was at a Lane Bryant store and talked to a woman working there about all the chains owned by Limited Brands.  She also works part time at B&BW, and she said they are both owned by the same company.  Interesting.   :-\\\\

If you have a Chadwicks (of Boston) account card, it's good at Lane Bryant and Jessica London and Roaman's (other "plus-size" clothing catalogues).  Does that make all of them part of Limited Brands?

It's kind of like the Evans/DP/Burton/Bhs/Wallis/Topman/Topshop thing here.  A card from one of them is good at all of them.

Yes, unfortunately.

I so used to love going to the diner in the one by us.  They made the best strawberry shortcake.

When I read this my immediate reaction was to think that I had been in a Woolworths recently so they must still exist in the states. Unfortunately my memory is for the one I visited on my last trip over. Oops! ;)

Hubby and I got into it once about Burger King's origins. He was convinced that it began in the UK. He also thinks Monopoly is a UK invention, lol.

Wimpy first appeared on Britain's high streets in 1954 under the ownership of J Lyons.

Lyons was famous in Britain at the time for the "cornerhouses" which existed throughout the country -- A chain of cafes with smartly dressed waitresses nicknamed "nippies."

yeah but I found that White Castle was in 20s...

I always thought Wimpy's was a spin off of McD's and Phil always thought the other way around

OK here's one. Is it Lacoste or Izod? When I was in high school I used to wear Izod shirts but here they are Lacoste? Are they the same?
