I was at Bluewater (in Kent) yesterday & there's a sweet shop there called The Sweet People which sells varieties of American soda, American cereal, American sweets & also Welch's Grape jelly. The usual extortionate prices for this kind of imported stuff but perhaps worth a look if you're desperate!

They sell the UK version of Chicken of the Sea albacore in Partridges in Kensington.  It's expensive, but pretty much like the US version.  They also, in case you missed it previously in the thread, have quite a big selection of US food (even more than on their site).

They also have a generic brand of albacore (in brine or sunflower oil) in Whole Foods, but I am not sure how it is.  I wish we had stopped there first because it was a third of the price of the Chicken of the Sea. For that much of a difference in cost, I would have been willing to experiment.

If you're after albacore tuna, Poundstretcher has it at the moment 99p for 2 cans. There's a thread about it somewhere.

It is? But they have different Latin names .... according to wikipedia anyway. The tinned yellowfin that I have seen is darker in colour and has a stronger flavour than albacore which is very pale and mild to taste.

It would have helped had I added the link!  ::)

One was the link you included, and rereading it says that in some parts of the world "other species" are known as albacore and mentioned yellowfin. I should get my eyes checked!

I also found this
http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9005388/albacore
Which says bluefin is sometimes called albacore!

So I guess the message is beware of cans in this country that say it's albacore as it may not be what you expect it to be!

I never think of them as the same thing either but ... our Tesco just expanded massively, and they now sell yellowfin tuna in a lovely glass jar. It looks just like albacore! I still have some albacore on hand thanks to a generous fellow UKYer  :-*  but I will be giving the yellowfin stuff a try once my albacore stash is depleted.

The Whole Foods albacore was 99 p also.

Not all of us are close enough to London to get to Whole Foods.

I didn't suggest that was the answer for everyone. I'm definitely not close enough to Whole Foods to shop there frequently.  But for some of us, it's closer than the nearest Poundstretcher. :)

We just got back from Partridge's near Sloane Square, and they definitely have a bigger selection for American food than the Kensington branch.  I was under the impression from their website that the opposite was true.  There are lots of things there if you are looking for stuff.

I know!!  I was considering seeing if there was some kind of 2-day a week or a minimal job I could do at our local one (10 minutes away - arghhh!!!!) just to shop there!!!!  Now that I'm pregnant, I've abondoned that idea and just dream of Kraft Parmasean Cheese...... (hey, everyone has their thing, right?)....

I used to work on the base... miss all the food! I miss the Kraft Parmasean Cheese the most!! I wish they sold it here! I am thinking about getting a civillian job on the base just to feed my Kraft Parmasean Cheese needs!

Isn't that just grated Parmesan? Why would you miss that so much? We do have Parmesan cheese!
