I am gutted for the Australians.  Italy really did have 11 players in the last bit of the game.  Unbelievable! :-[

Guess I'm going to be the lone dissenter and say that I'm pleased the Azzurri made it through.  Yep, they dive and play for the fouls, but if I've only been watching football for eight years and know it, so should every other coach and team know it.  Part of a successful strategy is knowing how to contain it.

And here I was thinking I was in love until ya said that :P......maybe it's just John Terry and the fact he's got a face like a spanked baby's ars* every time he feels hard done by

BTW....too bad about Holland, but like Mexico against Argentina I think they played that game one round too early. (such is the draw, lesser teams float through because of it, but never mind.....)......In a quarterfinal things would have been different :-\\\\

Poor Terry, his performances for England aren't as solid as they are with Chelsea.  Maybe it's because he doesn't have Makelele sitting in front of him, maybe it's his partner (would rather see him with Campbell) or just perhaps he'll be one of those players that never puts in the same consistent performance in internationals that he does for club.

:\\\'(  Yeah, I'm bummed to see them go.  But I believe Van Baston said this is a squad for the future.

i think England fans have had several shocks this world cup.  The first three games you won were shocks with the way they played ;)

Bloodied, but not beaten!

Poor Aussies - what a way to lose!  And in the final minute to boot.  It was a fair PK, but the situation just STUNK.  Italy got realllll lucky with that one.

Oh my God.  What a way to go out.  I am speechless.  They had done so bloody well, and really played their hearts out.  I'm practically in tears here and I'm not even Australian.

Vicky

Yep, I used to play defense and that call was horrific. I honestly have never seen worst officiating than at this world cup. Even by refs in the USA who have never played soccer. ( well, maybe not. :-)  The Aussie has as much right to that position on the field as the Italian has. If the Italian chooses to try to run through/over then it is a foul on the him. Now if the Aussie had tried to play the ball while on the ground. Just 100% clear the game of soccer is becoming a game of cry-babies.  Everytime some loser goes down faking an injury and the ball is kicked off the pitch as a "sportsman" I cringe. Whatever happened to doing battle?  The player should be ejected from the game in a 3 minute penalty at least. Better yet he should have to run a gauntlet to be allowed back in the game. European soccer is for wimps.

GO SPAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this may turn out to be a good game (provided there's no Russian ref  ::)).  Spain -- the perennial under-achievers doing much better this tournament -- versus France, a team full of talent on the slide.  I hope they both turn it on tonight and give us the game of their lives.
