I'm going to make this tomorrow for MIL's birthday:

http://smittenkitchen.com/2010/10/spiced-applesauce-cake/

Except I'm using a round cake tin instead of a square one and my applesauce is sweetened, but it's still pretty tart, so it should work out okay. Anyway, I could always cut some sugar from the recipe to keep it from being too sweet and will probably add more nuts as she is crazy about them.  :)

I have a pumpkin pie in the oven right now. It smells like autumn. :)

Yesterday I made pumpkin bread with a few muffins, too, as I had extra batter. I also made spice cookies which were good but not great. Now I have a loaf of white bread rising.

That's all well and good, but I'm stumped on what to fix myself and two munchkins for dinners for the next week. Totally uninspired. :P

I tried that Martha Stewart sugar cookie recipe, but they didn't turn out at all.  :-[ I used food colouring to make the dough orange, and I guess I shouldn't have, as I chilled the dough overnight but it was too wet to roll out or anything.  :\\\'( What a waste!  >:(

Did you throw it out? If not, add some flour if you can and just roll it into balls or spoon them on to the tray. Use a wet glass to smoosh them down and bake (sprinkle sugar on them if you want). They aren't cut outs, but at least you don't waste the dough.

I can't imagine that adding food coloring would alter the consitency that much. I always find cut out dough a pain in the ars*. :)

Well I didn't get my pumpkin bread made yet.  Maybe tomorrow.

I made French macaroons on sunday, First batch were perfect so put two more in... oven cut out halfway through cooking  (gas) wtf?! Had to chunk those, third batch got distracted by trick or treaters so they rose but burned on the leading edge.

So after all that baking I got 6 halves, or 3 macaroons!

I made pumpkin pie on Saturday - never eaten it or baked it before but DH said it tasted like real pumpkin pie :)

I also made halloween cupcakes yesterday for my nephews joint birthday party, they were delicious :)

I made malted chocolate chip cookies yesterday, and they turned out quite well. :)

I was a bit dismayed to see a bunch of other goodies in the kitchen (new job - wanted cookies to help make a good impression!), but there are only a few of my cookies left, and a few people have complimented me on them, so mission accomplished, I think.

I have some bananas going off, so I'll make banana bread tomorrow for DH to take into work.

It's not from scratch, but made it on Halloween and the kids loved it. Unroll crescent roll dough, line up about 3 cans/batches in a row, 'winding' them on the baking sheet. Line the dough with ham, turkey or roast beef, a little salami and cheese of choice. Roll up and pinch the sides. Shape one end as a triangle and voila, you have a snake on the tray. Bake 1.5 times recommended roll baking time. Once out use olives and toothpicks to create snake eyes.

Now the real question - does crescent roll dough in the pop open can exist in the UK?  ???

I found it ONCE at Morrisons but I haven't seen it since but I do love a good crescent roll from the can ;-)

I threw the dough out.  :-X :-[ I had two discs, the first one was all stuck to the cling film after I tried to roll it and it was a huge mess. I could've tried your suggestion with the second disc (and should have) but I just couldn't be bothered to try.  :-X :-\\\\ Oh well, I will try something different at Christmas, maybe. I still haven't found a recipe that really jives with me yet for cutouts. I'm sure it's the baker rather than the recipes. ;) I added the brandy to the sugar cookie recipe as suggested, but it was far too wet. Maybe it would've worked better without?  ???
