Your #4 is amazing!  I always get so excited when companies have amazing customer service. And to have won something!

I won tickets to a live music even at Hard Rock Cafe once.  I don't even know why I entered because all their events are on weekdays, so there was no way it was going to be feasible.  I was just like... There's no way I'll win.  And then I did.  Didn't I feel like a right idiot.

Thanks, Jay!  Yeah, it's not particularly valuable, but just to have won something is a fun feeling.  What did you end up doing with those tickets for the event you couldn't attend?

What's the alternative, though?  To continue to ignore him so he never feels part of the group?  I think it's absolutely lovely that they have gone out of their way to try to make him feel special, for whatever reason.
I mean, every day treat him like a human and include him. Just because he has differences doesn't make him "less than". The comment about how they all feel badly for him for being different is what set off massive red flags for me.

Mine aren’t fabulous this week

1. Thank god it’s Friday. Week has indeed lasted forever.
2. Cat won’t stop waking me up at 4 bloody AM! He’s not hungry, except for attention. How can I make it stop?!
3. Cashed in airlines miles to pay for my ticket back to the states! We’re not  going until April but exciting times! Will be first husbands trip back since May!
4. I had a good job opportunity that has disappeared. FIL was going to have an opening at his work but it seems to not have happened.  Boo
5. I’ve started a new exercise routine and am sticking to it! Lost a little over 1 pound so far but it’s still better than nothing. It’s odd I found something I enjoy.

Might just be me but I didn’t read it as thy felt bad for him *because* he’s different or that they think of him as “less than”. I might be totally wrong but I read it as they felt bad because him being a bit awkward might mean he ends up being isolated (either because he’s isolating himself or he ends up isolated by others, perhaps unintentionally) and they are trying to show him on his birthday he does have friends. I think albatross only highlighted that he’s “awkward” as to give context as to why they maybe went more out of the way to feel included.

I had written up a big reply and tapatalk ate it :(

Heyjay - wait until you see if the company will take on board any of the OH recommendations. They have no legal requirements to unfortunately. They can deem any part of them "unreasonable" for the business and then send you down the official grievance and tribunal routes :( I know you don't trust your union too much either, but I would try to get them on your side as you may need their help. I'm sorry HR/managers are being so difficult :(

JFK - for the lung charity, they may have run out of funding for IT and lost whichever volunteers managed social media. I would get to know the group and their leadership before making any decisions on helping. I learned the hard way that the management can make or break what it's like to volunteer for something!

My five....

1. Car passed its first MOT since we bought it with no issues. *phew*

2. Officially out of money. Need to quickly find a way to earn enough to cover car insurance and US bills. Probably going to go the route of selling crafts and continuing to file a self assessment at least until my hands give out. My TOR 12 months have passed so at least I can do that without having to buy new materials. Thank goodness you don't need to sign up for VAT until you're doing a much bigger volume than I will.

3. I started a seed tray a little over a week ago and have my first little sprouts! I don't have a heated propagator so some will take a lil longer, but that makes me happy.

4. My husband was sad that his barclays thing to validate transfers had died. Thankfully I brought a multi screwdriver set from the US and saved the day and replaced batteries.

5. Signed up for a 6 week course for people with chronic illnesses that the local council sponsor. You can become a patient advocate or peer support after going through it, and it covers some useful topics so I'm looking forward to it. And our local game space is starting a kids club, and they asked if I could help with that so I'll be meeting with them soon.

5.   There’s this guy in my work who is super awkward and inept, but we all kind of feel bad for him – he’s just a poor soul.  Anyway it’s his 40th today and we have made a big fuss, decorated his desk, bought presents and cards and sweets, and a golden jewelled plastic crown with a sort of faux ermine king’s robe.  Hope he has a great day and realises that he does have friends at work.

She said they feel bad for him, but she also said she hopes he realises that he does have friends at work.  I think it's normal to feel badly for our friends if they are struggling with something.  Their goal was to make him feel included and celebrated.  I can't think of any reason why this would be inappropriate if it was done as a genuine gesture.

Just want to say that this is the most annoying thing when it happens lol. I usually just give up at that point.

My Friday 5:

1. It’s finally Friday (despite me thinking yesterday was Friday) so it’s my pizza day! Yay!

2. Got an interview on Tuesday for the next level up internally at VF. Not really a great payrise compared to if I went external, but probably easier and less of a change overall (but I’ve got some other applications out there being reviewed so we’ll see what happens).

3. Friends are coming around tonight to discuss a group trip somewhere. Tried for a weekend to Amsterdam during Easter bank hols but it’s (obviously) quite pricey so we’re discussing moving it.

4. Still pending word on my refund on my ILR processing fee...but remembered a friend’s sister is an accountant and she’s agreed to be my professional referee on my naturalization application which is good! Should be sending that out soon.

5. This weekend I have to take work home with me again but this time I need to do a presentation for my end of year. Don’t normally have to do that but my line manager wants me thinking at the “next level” so has asked me to do a presentation.

KristieP, sorry about the lost job prospect.  But, more importantly, what is the exercise you enjoy doing?  Asking for a friend.  *shifty eyes*

Margo, congrats on the MOT pass... hoping for the same good fortune for me on Monday.  What are you growing?

KoD, happy pizza day, finally!  I know yesterday was hard for you.  :P  Good luck with the interview.

Pizza, interviews, and an opportunity to show your skills. Sounds like a good Friday! :)

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make me feel good. You're being nice because you *feel badly for him* for being different? That doesn't sound friendly to me, at all.

Luckily we didn't do it to make YOU feel good.
We did it to make HIM feel good, and it worked... he was bowled over by the surprise and seems really happy today  :)
We are 'nice' to him every day, despite him being fairly difficult to like.  We are helping him to celebrate a 'big' birthday because we're pretty sure he won't be getting any kind of a celebration, or even a bit of special attention at home, from what we know of his personal life.

I see nothing wrong in that.

1) Went on a tour to the Highlands yesterday. It was lovely - cloudy and misty, but I wasn't dressed quite warmly enough. Still, enjoyed a day out where all I had to do was show up and someone else did all the planning. (see photo)

2) Daughter had a conference she wanted to go to in Durham, but can't afford it. I'd go if I had tourist things to do, but apparently it's just a bit too early in the year for the tourist stuff, so will be looking (assuming Brexit has been postponed) at maybe a trip to France for a few days.

3) We got some really nice chocolate, and had killer hot chocolate drinks in Oban, overlooking the water, on our trip. Very good place, closest thing to a Mayan Hot Choc she's had since we've been here, says Daughter.

4) Fishies are still not doing well. Have tried the new antibiotic, and it's helped a little bit, but one of the neons now appears to have balance issues. Which does not bode well for his little self surviving many more days. Not really much I can do - he did eat this morning. From swimming upside down, he still had breakfast. So I guess there's still hope?

5) Daughter's mini-roses are coming out of hibernation. It's much cooler and cloudier today than it's been in a couple of weeks. More like it should be on 1 March. When we were in the Highlands yesterday, some of the gorse was starting to bloom.  The seasons, once again, are out-of-whack! (But it was still beautiful up there.)

Ok but don’t laugh! Step aerobics! I found a girl who has a ton of videos on YouTube and she has a good pace and no over the top “you can do it” chat. They’re low impact (the two I found) and I cannot breathe (in a good way) during and after them.  :D

I planted a variety to see what comes up! I'll be keeping pea shoots indoors, and in the seed trays are garlic chives, spring onions, pak choi, kale (from the pass the parcel box), gherkins, and a couple pretty hot pepper varieties for my husband to eat and me to enjoy the color. A friend just gave me purple kohlrabi to try as well. :) Need to get some environets to protect them once we get the veggie bags for the patio. May be trying potatoes too! Trying to get a good garden going in case of a bad brexit, knowing how to grow greens will be helpful!

Oban is my favourite town. I'm looking forward to going this summer. I love the Hebrides.

Glencoe is amazing. You need to head to Aviemore next and up to Inverness.
