I can't believe I've never tried blackcurrant. Grapes absolutely a fav. We grew up with a vine of concord grapes in our backyard and there was nothing better than sitting there smooshing them out of their skins right into your mouth. So sweet.

We had blackberries growing wild by our aunt's house. Every summer when we would visit, she'd have us run out there and pick a bunch of blackberries, and then she'd make us a pie. Not ALL the blackberries made it into the pie though ;D

Is it possible to make homemade grape jam? That would probably be good. I'd steer clear of anything in a big squeezy bottle, to be honest!

I don't like Blackcurrant neither does Dh. whenever I eat skittles or starburts I always save the blackcurrant flavored candies for Dh's friend's wife she loves them.  [smiley=bleck.gif]  I love grape flavored candy. ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I have some Smucker's strawberry jelly in a squeezy bottle an absolute must when I'm having a pb & j sandwich.  ;D  I would prefer it in a glass jar but when shipping food products here to the UK from back home plastic is better.

It's not really the fact that it's in a squeezy bottle that I don't like - more that it's so mass-produced and so can't possibly be as good as homemade. But that's pretty much true for everything.

No!  Beetroot is really nice!
Im not keen on the pickled stuff, but the cooked stuff is magic!

I just came back from our greengrocer. They cook their own beetroot (not pickled) and have a big tub of it on the counter for you to help yourself from! I bought enough to last me a couple of days ... and that's a lot!  ;D

Yes, you can make homemade grape jam. One summer, we made a huge batch. Very time intensive and messy, but soooo worth it. Takes ALOT of grapes though.

I don't really have an opinion on blackcurrant v. grape but I do looooove beetroot.

I have an awesome recipe for roasted beetroot and feta salad with tarragon dressing. And since my tarragon plant is going absolutely crazy at the moment I think I'm going to be making it a lot this summer!!!

I don't like it out of the squeeze bottles either. I taste a difference between that and when it's in a glass jar.

That sounds fantastic!! I searched for and found Mark Hix's beetroot salad recipe from Great British Menu. Here it is.

I came so so close to buying beetroot today after reading this thread.  :)

Nothing would ever make me buy Blackcurrent for myself though, and weirdly only one of my kids will drink the stuff.  The other two hate it.

I'm not big on black currant juice myself - it always tastes a little watery to me and without the yummy intensity of the currants themselves. But I do love a summer pudding made with real black currants!

Proper Welches grape jam out of a glass jar should have a very intense flavor. And it has to be from Concord grapes.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
