Great photo, MrsPink!  Now what kind of pie was that?

I want PIE! So hungry now reading this thread. Strawberry-rhubarb is an old favorite and so yummy. I miss the rhubarb plants I used to have.

Thanks for all the tips on the crusts ladies! I need to try and do a homemade pie crust. I don't know why pastry intimidates me, but I always worry it'll turn into a disaster.

I tried a homemade crust before and it didn't work. I'm definitely getting motivated to try again by reading this thread!

I made some Oreo pudding pie with an Oreo cookie crumb crust. DB had never had it before, but he LOVED it!!! He said the only reason he didn't eat the whole thing was because it's so sweet and rich.

I'll hold you to that, jennredd!  Even if I won't let myself have pie this weekend, at least I can have some vicarious pie!

tristessa & scarlett516, homemade pie crust is always a worthwhile endeavor.  If you flub up, you simply eat the evidence & then try, try again another time.  MrsPink is spot on with her tips for working the pastry.  If it doesn't work out when you attempt, come back & discuss.  Another thing I do because the perimeter crust seems to get overly brown in the baking, I put a little foil all around the edge & then remove it in the last - oh 15-30 minutes or so of baking.  Then it gets golden & not burnt.

Thanks Carolyn. I'm actually good at baking the pies themselves, but I just have a hard time with the crust. I tried it before by using a spoon to mix, but I bought a pastry cutter today and will try to make a pie crust with that.

Maybe I'll try later this week!

My grandma makes the best pie!  My two favs are strawberry/rhubarb and raspberry.

I'd always get a raspberry pie for my bday (along w/a German choc. cake!).

I want some pie now!

:(  I made a blackberry PIE, but I didn't have enough berries and my PIE came out funny.  Tastes good, but it sank!  So no photo....I would die of PIE embarrassment!

If you don't have a pastry cutter, you can use two knives or a food processor.  Just use it for the flour and shortening only.  Mix the water in with a fork.
