How old were you when....?

I guess age six, when I found out I my reading and comprehension were on a university level.

   Wow!!!  I found out I was really good at reading as well around that age, but surely it wasn't THAT good!

 I was doubly pleased because it meant I got to move up from the lowest level reading group (The Redskins (heck it was the late 60's and people didn't realize that was racist)) past the middle group (The Jets) and landed in the top group (THE KITTENS - yay!!)!

First purchase of over $100 was a Walkman when they first came out in 1980.  I just googled it to see what they cost.

What was your first purchase of over $300 or the equivalent in ££?

Single disc CD player. ooooh aaaaah. And had a whopping 2 CDs to listen to.

How old were you when you got your first mobile phone?

17. Sad.

How old were you when you went to your first concert?

I was 16 and it was Bon Jovi/Cinderella.

How old were you when you first saw a horror movie?

OMG...Amityville Horror at age 11ish. Freaked me out and still does to this day!!!

How old were you when you got your first stereo/boom box/CD player in your room?

I was 11 or 12. I can't remember which. Before that I had a little radio. When I was 15 to one with a 5 disc cd changer in it. Ooooh! 

How old were you when you were first allowed to stay out until midnight?

Probably 17, when I got my license and a car (in NJ the driving age is 17), if only for the practical reason that before that, I would have had to been picked up from anywhere (it's absolutely impossible to walk anywhere in my hometown and I was the first of my friends to turn 17). I never had a curfew, per se. I definitely stayed out until 3 or 4 in the morning regularly by my senior year in high school, but mostly doing things like sitting and drinking coffee at Denny's or hanging out at my (gay) guy friend's house. Occasionally at my boyfriend's.

How old were you when you attended your first wedding?

30, it was my sister's wedding.  We have a very small family so no cousins getting married or aunts or uncles, etc. before that.

How old were you when you attended your first funeral?

I was probably 10 or 11, with an older relative. Mom still wasn't sure we were old enough (my brother is a year older) but she knew it had to be 'sometime'. Before that we would stay with a relative from the opposite side of the family - mom's side if it was one of dad's relatives who passed away, or the other way around. My sister would have been too little for that one.

How old were you when you first took up a hobby you are still currently doing?

I won't count reading as a hobby for this....I guess it would have to be playing the harp since I no longer sew or draw or do other crafts like I used to, so 33 years old.

How old were you when you stopped sleeping with dolls / stuffed animals?

I still had one at 20. Then I stopped having it in bed with me, but would put it on the bed during the day. When I was 21 it mysteriously disappeared, and I blame my (soon to be ex) boyfriend because he and I were the only ones in our apartment around the time it disappeared.

How old were you when you first drove (legally or not)?

14...but legally! Grew up in South Dakota where you can get your permit at 14.

How old we're you when you got your first bike?

I was probably three (nearly four), but I didn't try riding it until I was nearly five. Mom and dad bought my brother a girls' bike to learn on, fearing he might fall and hurt a tender area on the bar of a boys' bike. It didn't take him long at all to be ready for a bigger bike. I really didn't master it until just after turning five because I was afraid of falling, unlike my daredevil brother.

How old were you when you travelled more than 200 miles by yourself, in any mode of transportation?

I was probably three (nearly four), but I didn't try riding it until I was nearly five. About 22 years old, I think. About 2300 miles by plane, Vancouver to Montreal.
