How old were you when....?

I am sure I did before, but I remember boldly lying and saying my friend Becky's mom said it was fine for me to spend the night, before she was even asked, when I was about seven. I was off my school bus before Becky was off hers in the afternoons. We hatched the plan at school that day for me to spend the following night. It worked out, but at the time it was a lie because we didn't actually have permission yet. When the phone rang and it was Becky's mom calling to see if I could stay over, I was sweating bullets.

Well, if you count oral reports in school then I guess 4th grade (don't think we had to do that any younger than that age), so 9 or so, but I don't remember what it was on.

If we're not counting stuff in school, then about the same age at summer camp when I was Nancy in 'Oliver!'.  I was the leading lady and proud of it!

How old were you when you first cooked something for your parent(s)?

10. Baked a chocolate cake with blue frosting for moms grad school graduation. Blue frosting? Yikes

How old we're you when you got your first bike?

I was 6 or 7 and my sister and I both got green and purple Huffy bikes for Christmas.   I don't know why my parents thought that was a good idea because then we could never tell which bike was which, so my sister drew on mine with a Sharpie, so she'd know. 

How old were you when you first went to the cinema alone?

I was 19. I had taken the day off work for my birthday, but all my friends were still at work/school, so I had the day to explore, but since it was summer in Texas, a dark theatre had a certain call. Except I went to see "Multiplicity", on the recommendation of one of my friends. I still hold that against her, to this day.

How old were you when you first took a road trip without any supervising adults?

Of only about 50 miles, 15 with a friend who was 16. Of a couple hundred miles,19 with the same friend who was 20.

How old were you when you first learned to skate - ice, roller or rollerblade?

I was maybe about 9 or 10?  It was a long time ago--when we had those adjustable skates with the key to make them bigger or smaller.  I learned to ice skate as a young teen, but was never very comfortable with that.  I tried rollerblading when I was about 27, but gave it up.

How old were you when you first went to the ocean (any ocean)?

I had just turned 24 a few weeks before. My boyfriend at the time worked for Custom Coasters, and he was sent to Gulf Shores, AL to work on Cannonball Run at Waterville, USA (water park). A few weeks after a wooden coaster is built, every bolt has to have its nut tightened and then Lock-tite put on it, after the wood has had a little time to shrink. He worked, I worked on my tan, did a lot of reading and more or less had a vacation.

I began typing around 6 or 7 (on a typewriter), then began to touch type around 12. My mom was obsessed with getting me to be a good typist. I think things like AOL, where I was talking to friends online, helped me become really good at typing. I'm now typing at 90-95 WPM, so my mom did a good job

14.  It put me off dating for a long time, and I didn't want a boyfriend or anything until about age 20.  The date and the boy weren't bad at all, but I just wasn't 'ready'.

Grade 8, so 12, in the days of long knotted pearls and boy discoveries not to be repeated.   

HOWYW you bought you first record, album, cassette, CD, MP3 or whatever and what was it?

I definitely bought a few 45s, but I don't remember exactly what, plus I had albums bought for me (Donny Osmond, Shaun Cassidy  ).  But the first I bought for myself was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (their first album).  And that was the beginning of a serious music / album addiction that took me through high school, college and beyond!
