If we are doing it in Harrogate, just double check train times just in case.  I think the last train for me is at about 9pm... so just something else to throw in there.

Yes, I was going to say maybe shoot for around 3-5-ish (??), and then to encompass a meal perhaps, but still let out early enough for people further afield (York, Redcar, etc) to be able to make rail connections early enough to get home?  I don't know how long book club things normally take per session though - suppose it depends on how much you have to say!  ;) :D

Harrogate is easy for me because my town is right on the Harrogate-Leeds line.

ETA:  I meant to start it somewhere between 3-5-ish, that is!

And yaye - I'm so glad we're going to be doing this!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

If June Cleaver isn't there by November she's going to need serious therapy.   [smiley=dizzy2.gif]
Please go ahead with your plans, whatever works best for the majority of you.  Football will claim my November 1st.

Football will claim my November 1st.

Same here - the Georgia/Florida game is that day!!  Could start anytime between 5:30pm and 1am - not sure yet.  But I'll put myself down as a tentative "yes" - what are we reading, again?

You're very welcome :)  I enjoy doing this kind of stuff!

So, the amended time/date is November 1 (Saturday), starting between 3-5...I would say 3 or half 3 start would be ok so that everyone can make sure they get their train back!

The book is Petite Anglaise by Catherine Sanderson.  If you go to page 1, I put a link to the amazon.com site so you can see what it looks like :)  I've started it and it is pretty funny so far!

I am so glad that we are getting this off the ground!

Oh, and lets keep the time and date the same but move locations...  Seems only fair...can't expect everyone to come to Harrogate each time :P

Is this ok for everyone?

Sounds good to me!  When we're there for the first one on Nov 1, we could talk about how to go forward - where to have the next one, etc - yes?

Also, do you want us to each bring a book selection with us?

Maybe we will get a few more interested people between now & Nov 1 - however, this is a great start!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]  :)

Yes, we can definitely decide how to move forward in November-as for the book selection, sure.  I still think, however, that someone's book selection may change before it gets to their turn so maybe we could just pick the order of who will go when?  Go ahead and bring a selection and we can decide on November 1st :)

This IS a great start!  I am so glad that so many people where interested ;D

okay, I've been following this thread but I haven't been sure whether I am interested or not.  I've never been to a book club- what's it like?  Do people just jump in and start talking about the book?  Is there any structure to it?  Someone enlighten me!

I guess I'm in the same boat--never been in a book club, not sure what to expect.

Also, what is the book that was agreed on?

The book is Petite Anglaise by Catherine Sanderson...

As for what a book club is like....hmm, the book club that I was in in Japan basically read the book, talked about it (what they liked, didn't like, the ending, etc.) and then chatted and had a good time :)  It was basically a way for people to meet each other and to have something productive and educational (no!  it isn't boring!)  :P

I was thinking this book club could be like that.  A place for us to meet people, explore authors and genres we may not have read before and just have a good time.  I know that you won't be able to come to them all  but if you could come to some, that would be great!  It is always nice to meet up with people and just have a good chat about whatever :)  It won't be like school, no exams or essays!  Just reading good books and talking about them till we get bored and moving on to other subjects!  :)

I agree with what swelch2 said.  :)  I think most book clubs tend to be what the members/people attending want them to be - they could be structured more or less according to what everybody thinks, I suppose.

Right, because I've been totally wrapped up in other things, I completely forgot we have a holiday booked for that weekend through the following week.  Yep, I'm pretty crap at remembering things these days.  Anyway, don't let that stop you guys, and I will definitely, definitely be at the next one, even if I have to cancel holidays or take my parents for a scenic day to wherever (they are coming for Christmas).  I'm really sorry for being so crap.  :(
