Oi! The "you alright?" instead of "how are you?" still throws me!

Me: Hello
David:  Hi. You alright?
Me: Yes, of course, why wouldnt I be alright? Whats the matter?!?

Crazy Brits.  Oh and I just put pajama pants on... what do I call those??  They cant be "pajama trousers"!

While I'm on it - I always get made fun of for saying "you're welcome"... and apparently there is no Brit equivalent - they have no response for "thank you".  Where are their manners? :)

they are pajama bottoms hehehehe

I know the alright throws me too...I can't get used to it...just like they can't get used ot have a nice day coming from me lol

You are right they don't say your welcome they say Cheers and Ta I think for thank you and your welcome lol...we will have this language licked in no time

Oh do you want to hear my big sap moment of the evening...I just heard Richard Marx's song "Right here waiting for you" the words to that song sum up my whole long distance relationship..so I copied down the words and I am emailing them to Jason lol to let him know how much I miss him

Awww!!  What a sappy song but perfect words. Does Jason appreciate your sappiness?

I am ashamed to admit that I have "Hello Again" by Neil Diamond on my ipod and it always makes me think of David. I heard it on the way home from work and wanted to call him, but it was 1am in England.  Damn time zones!

I have an idea - Every day, we should pick a new slang word or just a different term for a word we already use and it will be our word of the day that we have to put into our vocabulary!   Alan will help, wont you Alan? :)

The "cheers" thing drives me nuts.

This morning Tim was leaving for work and the conversation as he was going out the door went like this:

Me: I love you
Tim: I love you too
Me: have a good day.
Tim: Cheers

It just drives me bonkers! :D

oh, and that ice site....oh, I should be doing the dishes an packing for our weekend in London (Seeing Spamalot!), but now it's sucked me in....

Carey I like your idea...what should the word for today be? hehe

yeah sappy songs are my thing...my all time favorite that reminds me of Jason and I is "When you Say you Love me" by Josh Groban....and I am not sure if he appreciates my sappiness or if he just thinks I am crazy  :)

Anna it sounds like you are addicted to diamonds now lol....this little thread has created monsters lol...I mean that in a good way....

How about today's word be "shops". I still want to say "store" a lot. I also had a (brit) friend of mine making fun of me for saying "mall". Shopping centre just isn't exactly the same thing. Anyone know what would be equal to "mall"? The friend didn't know either. He just said I couldn't come over there and say things like that next year (he was kidding of course!)

Yeah, it is pretty addictive... I bought DH a beeee-autiful silver bracelet for xmas last year from that site... was really pleased with the quality of its craftsmanship, he has worn it every day since then, no tarnishing and no problems with the clasp.  It was a bit pricey, $150, but their stuff really is good quality.  (No, I don't get commission for this glowing recommendation!)
It seems in America when I would compliment a lady on her necklace, etc., she usually said she got it from that site.... top notch!   ;D

And for those just catching up to this thread, we are talking about www.ice.com.
Man, they should give me some free stuff....  :P

Shops it is!
There is a place in Camberley called the Mall Camberley, so I think the term is used, but not regularly... (and the new Atrium opens today!)

I'm scared to visit this ice site... But will probably do it as soon as I press the post button here...

Have an awesome weekend in London, Anna!

For FREE silver jewelry (you just pay shipping. $5.99 in the US, and I think $8.99 in the UK) go here: http://www.silverjewelryclub.com/

and if you want to click on my affiliate link for them, it's http://www.silverjewelryclub.com/aff_process.aspx?affid=1429.  I think I get something like .25 off every purchase made via my link.  I'm not really sure if it even works anymore.

The "catch" is that items rotate every 15 minutes so you have to snap something up when you see it, but I've gotten many christmas gifts for female friends and relatives off of that site!  (and rings, since I love silver rings)

Anna, the link works, but do you pay the shipping costs for each item you choose?  Just curious....

Girls, I need some opinions... I'm thinking of buying David a watch for Christmas (his broke the last time we were together and he wears a watch ALL the time).

So.. do you have a preference out of these?

or

I'll have a look at the SHOPS this weekend for more possibilities :)

I like number two better.... but you are really the best judge, since you know what his old watch looked like and what he likes....

Any ideas for a bday gift for DH?  Its on the 30th, going shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but NOOOO idea what to get for him...  ???  He has a watch, and I have already given him a bracelet and a necklace.  I just can't think of anything!

Oh the irony of this will forever make me smile... Someone asking ‘me’ how to talk proper! Of coarse I can help but I need to point out that in England, there are local accents and colloquialisms that will for ever baffle and bamboozle even the English themselves while travelling around the country.

Not sure why you think a “mall” and a “shopping centre” differ? I would always say shopping centre and never mall, in my opinion they are the same.

..."pardon me all, I have to run to the shops." ???

Try

...“Just nipping to the shops, I’ll be back in a bit” (dropping the apology)

A suggestion for a topic too would be greetings and I’m sure Jamie will know why I suggested that when she gets to work in 30mins through the snow...
