What the heck is going on???  I missed the episode with the prank call, but could it have really been so offensive they would actually suspend him??  Talk show hosts have always made prank calls!   ???
I love him so....  :(

Jonathon Ross and Russell Brand were doing a radio show and the actor who played Manuel in Fawltey Towers was supposed to show up for a radio interview but didn't bother attending...so they called him up and said things like Russel had slept with his grandaughter and poked fun.  and so on..

At first I thought the fuss was ridiculous but having read the transcript I think the BBC is right to suspend him.  The things they said were totally out of line and no one else would have got away with it.

They both got suspended and then Russell Brand quit the radio show, so now the pressure is on for Jonathan Ross to do something similar.

There have been over 25,000 public complaints about the broadcast - although they said on the news that at the time of the broadcast (about a week ago), there were only about 2 complaints but then after the Daily Mail ran a story about it, everyone started complaining and now it's got pretty out of hand!

Yeah, I just checked out that other post, and I agree that it was the producers fault for airing something on the show that might have been over-the-top.  Besides, it wasn't even on Jonathan's show!

I was asking DH about this last night (TBH - I could care less about any of it but was just curious).  His point was (regardless of who's at fault - Ross, Brand, the producers, the Daily Mail, etc...) the current hoohaa speaks more to do/would the taxpayers who fund the BBC find the incident an acceptable use of public funding?  (and please let's not start into another lengthy thread about well - what about this? what about that? and the other...we disagree with this or that programme as well, and should we even be paying licence fees, blah blah blah - plenty of other threads on here already about all that  ;)).

So I wonder what the BBC will come out with as a result of its investigation into the incident?  ???

I feel certain Ross and Brand could get a show on another (commercial) network quite easily.

They were talking about that this morning on BBC. If only 25,000 people complained it doesn't seem like it is even worth investigating. As a tv license holder, I am disappointed that Ross was suspended, but I'm not going to make a stink about it. I'm sure there are others like me too.

Was Rossy suspended from his BBC tv show too?

Yup. It's not on tomorrow night.

25,000 people ... well, if what others are saying is right, it's 25,000 people who got all worked up over a Daily Mail story, not 25,000 people who heard the broadcast. I don't know. I don't think it's a big deal. Some people will think it's funny, others will think it's silly, and others will be disgusted. Isn't that the same as with publicly-funded art? Publicly-funded architecture? You can't please everyone. Personally, I'd rather that my license money didn't go to pay for Eastenders, Doctor Who and Top Gear, but those are the breaks.

They've both apologised and Andrew Sachs has accepted their apologies, so I think we should just all move on.

I do indeed!!! We're living with the inlaws (OK, future inlaws) at the moment, and I CANNOT WAIT for her to be gone for a week! I won't go into details, but I'll be a much happier person on Saturday.  ;D

I think..and this is just my opinion from what I am gathering from the radio and telly.  The grandaughter is the one stiring up the trouble..he grandad doesn't seem that bothered by it..but she makes out he is mortified.

Yes they made a joke..but I think this girl has a chip on her shoulder because she did sleep with Russell Brand and then stopped contact with her.  He met her as she was dancing with a dance troop called the "Satanic Sluts"...says it all really... :-\\\\

From all reports, she's a wannabe Page Three girl. I'd say her "career" won't benefit much by all of this, if that was her intention.

Oh wow, I thought they just made the whole thing up...
kinda puts a new spin on it knowing he really did sleep with her...
From the photos of her they were showing on the news, she sure didn't look too innocent, so I wondered, why the big deal???
But, seriously, I love Jonathan Ross.... he can't go!!!!!!!   [smiley=smitten.gif]
Even Gordon Ramsey looked nervous in his magnificent presence...
Woss Wocks!!!!!   [smiley=guitarist.gif]

Exactly...I think this girl is digging her nails in for a attempt at fame...

Yes he does..and so does his wife.  She presents a few things on telly every now and then..
