I think men should be required to wear kilts and no trousers.

What about [in the Brit sense] pants? ;) Heh.

It makes me wonder if the man in Red Lobster had a medical condition or a procedure that had just been done and was wearing the pj bottoms for a comfort factor? I seriously doubt that someone in their 50's would go to a sit down restaurant in PJ's, though the last Red Lobster I was in the lighting was very dim as well so I doubt I would have noticed if someone was in PJ bottoms anyway.

I've been guilty of running around town in my pj bottoms of course this was in CA and I was a uni student at the time. AND I have been known to go down to the veg shop here in my sweatpants. And I do fly in my sweats as well because I get very cold on planes plus even though I'm 9 & 1/2 months down the road from having my daughter my pre pregnancy clothes still don't fit and I refuse to buy anything more because the sizing here makes me feel like sh*t about my size.

I don't wear pajama bottoms on planes, but I do wear comfortable, loose, stretchy pants.  If I had to sit on a plane for hours in something constricting, I'd probably go mad.

Some of my students wanted to dress like this when I took a group over to France last year. I told them that we were not going to be dressing like that on the plane or in France!

Your students are lucky to have you.  This makes me chuckle, because the first time I went to France as a college sophomore, I wore plaid pajama pants on the plane and when we arrived it was 6am so we couldn't go to the hotel and change.  So I ended up touring Paris in my pajamas!  I must have looked like such a goober.  If only my teacher had had sense enough to tell me not to wear them, or at least to pack a change of clothes in my carry-on.  Oh well, live and learn.

I would never wear pj's in public.  And for me sweats=pj's so I most likely wouldn't wear them either unless I was out jogging, but that won't ever happen.  :D

Someone mentioned that wearing pj's in public creates the wrong frame of mind and I agree--I love to be comfy but if I wore pj's in public then I wouldn't have the ahhh factor of coming home and changing out of regular clothes into my comfy pj's!

Someone else mentioned the 50's and 60's when women dressed up to shop, etc.  I'm just glad we don't have to wear hats (ugh) and gloves these days when out and about.

I sometimes wear yoga pants on planes, and my Nike Air Pegasus too.  I find it helps me sprint between terminals when my connection is inevitably screwed up. I may look like a geek and an American, but if that plane goes down in the Hudson at least I won't be tottering down the wing in heels.  ;)  ;D

When I was in high school (1993-1997), the entire cast of the musical I was in wore pajamas to school the week leading up to the show because we were performing The Pajama Game and wanted to publicize it :).

When I was in college (1997-2002), I'd wear my pajamas to breakfast some mornings.

I wouldn't wear pajamas out in public anymore, but I have a lot of work-out/lounge/yoga pants that double sometimes as pajamas and I've been known to wear those out of the house.

I actually changed into my pajama pants after I got on the plane to the UK. I was flying on a buddy pass, so I had to dress up for check-in, but I was chilly on the plane and was afraid of flashing people while I napped, so I pulled on my pajamas.

A friend of mine who thinks she is overweight only wears pajama pants and uses the excuse that they are the only pants that fit her.

Why the heck not?!  A la 'The Dude':

Exactly!  The Dude abides.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I wore pajama bottoms frequently back in the early 90's.  Heck, I was grunge before it was cool to be grunge! ;)

I know you do!  :D

A friend of mine who thinks she is overweight only wears pajama pants and uses the excuse that they are the only pants that fit her.

Wearing sweatpants in public when I was somewhat overweight was also contributing to the problem.  I felt both fat *and* sloppy and it definitely was not good for my self esteem in any way.

I agree Andee.

I wore sweat pants out to the mall one day and was rather mortified whenever I caught a glimpse of myself  :P

Of course some sweats are more flattering than others.  I can't really tell the difference between a fitted yoga pant and a cotton twill summer weight pant.

Agreed.  You know the type of sweats that are so bad, though--drawstring or elastic at the waist and elasticized at the ankle or some combo of the above.  Usually grey, dark blue or black, but any color is pretty bad.

I've worn pj bottoms out when I was in uni (and later when I was still "college age"), and I still wear lounge pants out.  I simply don't have the clothing to be picky (my things are either too big or two small, and I don't want to try for a transitional wardrobe until I am a bit thinner), and I love pj bottoms.

I don't wear sweat pants.  I do have some tracksuit bottoms, but they aren't as comfortable as lounge pants.
