Wasn't there something about the elasticated belts they used to wear with the old uniforms -- for identifying rank??  And then there's the colours but I can never remember which colour is for which.

Jim, my friend Iain is a nurse in London, and as far as I can tell different hospitals have different policies.  His job at St Thomas' came with a tunic and trousers, and his job at Charing Cross came with scrubs.

I was trapped outside my house by accident once in my pink pjs - chicken feet slippers - and miss piggy pink dressing gown ( Mmmnnn Sexthy your thinking ) and I was mortified!! I could never go to the shops in my sleepwear...1) because I always wear daft silly pjs to bed and 2) I would feel really lazy.

Most of my pj's are not fit for public viewing. Let's just say, some of them have built in air conditioning! lol

Great subject...I'm a NorCal lady and have been living in London for 1.5 years now.  I would think nothing of wear my flannel bottoms to coffee or the grocery store in Cali, however would never think of that here.   My hubby would have a heart attack :o.  You almost feel funny for wearing sweat pants to the park. In Cali, I lived near a college town so most of the population was students running around in their pj's.

I miss the casualness of California so much, not to mention the sun!  Hubby's lucky I love him!

I'm also a Northern Cali girl. I think it would be almost impossible to find a place in the world more casual than here in NorCal. I practically live in my 'lounging pants' and pj's on my days off from work, and I can imagine that living away from the casualness would take some getting used to.

We are a nation that has a government -- not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the earth. Our government has no power except that granted to it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.
Ronald Reagan

The early morning and late night dog-walking are always done in pyjamas with a coat over... but apart from that, I wouldn't wear pyjamas in public.

I've never work PJs out in public. I'd find that horrifying.

I only wear workout gear when i'm walking in and out of the gym with a gym bag firmly attached to me to make sure it's clear what i'm there for. I'd never wear out in in public for clothing as you would most likely get a reputation around here as a "chav".... Not to mention 90% of people walking about in sweatpants clearly are not athletic  :-\\\\

I've just realised (to my embarrassment) that I have worn PJs in public!!

My friends and I in the US used to go to Drag Brunch at a local restaurant on Sundays. And on the first Sunday of the month, if you wore your PJs, you'd get a free mimosa. So I think I'm excused because I didn't do it out of laziness or for comfort - but for free booze!  ;D

I never have, though in college (97-01) I would occasionally do the adidas pants if it was an earlier class.

But after that, not really.  I feel sloppy.  On planes I've learned to opt for leggings and some sort of tunic/sweater dress.

Here, I kind of like how people look more put together on the weekends.  In the US, the malls seem to be plagued by the girls still wearing the Juicy suits, or the Pink sweatpants from Victoria's Secret.  I feel like people need to make SOME sort of effort, I don't care of the sweats are designer!

Guilty as charged!
When I used to fly in and out of the country 2-3 times a week, I wore pajamas to the airport.  I didn't care i was flying business or first class wearing pajamas (and still don't).  If you wear a suit, they get crinkled from the seats and really who wants to be uncomfortable on a plane for 10+ hours?

People here do it all the time with shoes.  I see tons of girls wearing sneakers with their suits because they don't want to trek 30 minutes on the road with 3-4 inch heels (guilty here as well).  Does it look good?  Anyone think a black/gray suit go well with bring pink and yellow sneakers?  I think it's the same thing and I don't really think it's a big deal.

Of course I wouldn't do that when I meet a client but if they are comfortable, more power to them.

I do this everyday!  My daily 40 minutes walk to work would destroy work shoes... ;D

Wearing sneakers with a suit so you can actually walk is a lot different than wearing your pj's in public!  I never could wear stylish or cool shoes since my walk to work was 50 minutes and my job was standing all day...

However, I can see the logic of wearing pj bottoms or sweats on a long flight.  I guess you could always wear them under loose jeans and then pull the jeans off once you were on the plane...

When I fly & I'm feeling uncomfortable in whatever I've worn, and I look over and see someone wearing jammies or sweats - I always think 'why didn't I do that?!'  :)

This is exactly why they give out free pjs in first class/upper class long haul flights!  Virgin jammies are so comfy, I wear mine all the time now.

When I get home from work ,first thing I do is change into jammies and my slippers.
I don't mind running errands or flying in comfy clothes at all.  The way I figure it, if someone cares what I wear, then they have their own insecurities.  Now, I'd never wear them to work or to a party or to the theatre, etc or anywhere where I actually do need to make an impression.  But running to tesco, who cares?

I've never gotten food on my underpants!
