I'm just joining this... as soon as that one boy goes back to England I'll start eating right...  I dropped half a stone in the last few months, just one more to go!  I need to get on the exercise track- but we're hiking Yosemite tomorrow so I expect that counts.  ;D

I went for a run early yesterday, and I keep getting down on myself for not being able to knock out anything past the 5k mark, but I think I just need to start incorporating walking breaks at timed intervals.  It's worked for my friend, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

Have you considered trying a specific training programme for a 10k?
Here's a good one and here's a half marathon one

Thanks - yeah, I've seen both, and have a few books on running.  And I've done a 10k in the past and other shorter races.  I'm on a half marathon training schedule for one in September - and I think I'm just getting discouraged because I have a hard time extending myself past that 4-5 mile mark.  My knees are not in love with me!

So I had been doing some reading about the galloway method, where people time their running with speed walking "recovery" breaks, so I'm going to test it out this weekend and see if I can't extend my distance a little more.

Thanks for the links, though!

Cool, figured since you're already doing running, you know way more than me on the subject- :P
Good luck with your plans  :)

Ha, I read all about it all the time, but getting myself out the door sometimes is hard!

I'm just not one of those people who truly enjoys it..yet.  I'm hoping that part kicks in...sometime soon!  Like, feel great when it's over, running a race is fun..when they are done.  But I enjoy  myself more in our boxing/circuits classes because it's more interesting.

I'm like you I don't truly enjoy going to the gym but I don't hate it either. slowly I think I'm leaning more towards the liking the gym more but that could be cause I don't want to waste the money we spent on a years gym membership I just don't know which one it is at the moment!!

Down 1.75 lbs this week, so I'll take that-  a healthy weight loss   :)

Congrats on your weight loss!!  ;D  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

That's great! I've read its much more beneficial for long term weight loss to lose no more than 2 pounds per week, so it sounds like you are on track!  :)

My dietitian & trainer have both said that 1-2 lb weight loss a week is the best for long term weight loss. I know there right but like other people said watching weight loss shows where people lose loads a weight in a week does a number on me everytime an I get mad at myself when I cant lose weight like that it's a vicious circle going on in my head lol.  ::)  :P

I'm heading into the gym for another freaking brutal routine I'm usually at the gym for 2 hours.

Doing pretty well.  Did about 35 minutes of workout yesterday (strength and core) and walked to work today. Also made huge mess of black beans and rice with wild garlic, green onions, and green pepper.  There's some cheese in there, for sure, but I'm looking forward to healthy lunches this week.
Tonight, stir fry! With the bok choy, flat beans, and mushrooms from our veggie box--I'm loving the veggie box, it has single handedly quadrupled the amount of veg I eat (plus, it gave me an excuse to make courgette muffins this week!)
Horseback riding four days this week should help as well. (And the sunshine and the burst in energy that it provides is a bonus!)

No gym last night. Mr MLG was working in London and got home late, so a walk in the park after supper instead. Hoping for the gym tonight and walking home from work tomorrow. May do the gym on Thursday instead of walking home, as it's supposed to rain and I might be too lazy to walk in the rain.

Tummy troubles the last few days, so I haven't managed to workout much. I feel like I'm really struggling these days. I do well with my diet through the week, but always seem to botch things at the weekend. At least by being good through the week I am managing not to gain any weight back, really, but it's doing a number on my stomach to eat more for two days, then less for five.  :-\\\\

I walked about 4 miles today. I've been really crap about exercise lately. I'm also going to blow up my new exercise ball right now! I know DH is wondering when that's going to happen!  :P

I highly recommend www.mapmyrun.com for checking mileage. Of course, you can track walks too, not just runs!

You know I signed up for Spark People sometime last week, but have just had no motivation whatsoever - ever since.  Fail.  :(

Try not to be hard on yourselves. Seriously.  :)

The best advice I ever got from a fitness instructor was, 'Something is better than nothing.' I take that to mean focus on your successes and you are more likely to stay on track with your health overall . No, that doesn't mean all the time. Stuff happens, life is stressful etc.

I didn't get to the gym last night. Far to wiped after a week of not sleeping well. But last night I slept really deeply. Mr MLG thinks he may be home at a reasonable time tonight, so I am thinking we will go tonight.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I am feeling kinda down on not being as fit as this time last year, but with Christmas away and then getting super ill, I am trying to not be hard on myself either! Sometimes I am my own worst enemy! :P

This is what I am trying to work back up to. You are working hard.   [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I haven't had much motivation lately, either, and haven't been very good on the calorie maintenance front the last few days. I haven't even quit smoking yet and already I am eating more!  :-\\\\ But, I have to prioritize my goals. I don't want to gain too much weight while quitting, but I definitely have to keep most of my attention in the quitting arena. Whatever happens, I can lose any weight gained once I have my lung function under control. It will definitely make exercising a bit more tolerable.  :P
