Me, too! Me, too!

I'm the flaky, single chick who's moving to London 29th Sep (already have my ticket and my nutter dog's, which was -- gulp! -- three times the price of mine!), not for a boyfriend, not for a fiance - just...well, to do it.

Right now though, I'm about to pull out my hair: no job, no flat, haven't yet sold my condo here, have Freecycled nearly everything I've ever owned, things are costing even more than I quite budgeted, and of late I've been waking up in the mornings and wondering, "What the heck am I thinking??" ;)

BUT... I've got the work visa ready in hand. And I thought THAT was going to be the hard part!

I just believe this: if I don't try this move, I'd always wonder "what if..." Meh, if things don't work out, I won't require a visa to return! hehe...

I am leaving for England on 10-25.  My husband has been in England since 4-27, and I have stayed behind to sell the house, and wait for the pets to be ready for travel.  The house has since been sold, and the pets can travel as early as 10-24 (this is when their quaranteen will be lifted)
My husband works for the US government, and they have sent him to the UK for a 5 or more year assignment.  We will be living right outside of Cambridge.  My husband just loves it out there, and the people are extremely friendly.  I also have a "special needs" son, and I have taken a lot of time to check out some of the activities that Cambridge and the surrounding communites offer these special kids.  I have been very impressed at what the UK offers these children.  I thought it was good where I live in the US, but the UK's programs and activities for people with disabilities is beyond excellent.

We're moving near Oxford in a few weeks with two boys. How old is your son?  :)

Hi Sevans,  I missed seeing this earlier.  My son is just 20 months old now.  How old are your boys?  Hope your move goes smoothly for everyone.

anais97, I'm with you!  My husband and I are moving over in two weeks (!) on Tier 1 visas - we're showing up without jobs, and without any good reason to be there other than that this is something we really want to do, and we know we'll regret it if we don't give it a try.  And like you said, if it doesn't work out, we can always come back...

Best of luck to you!  Keep us posted!

I will be moving to St. Albans as soon as I book a flight! I am probably one of the few that didn't purchase a flight as soon as I got my Visa. I've been playing the flight search game and so far the flights are really expensive. I heard that you should book your flight mid-week since airlines raise prices on weekends. Hopefully I will be there soon.

Got my university acceptance, just now sorting out the visa and funds.  :) Family is giving me a really hard time now, but I know this is what I want to do. I do give them a listen, but I have already accepted that until they find something about the UK that they love, I won't get much backing from them. I imagine it's mostly worry over whether my qualifications earned from school will transfer over to the US, which I doubt they won't, and that I might get 'confused' and quit school...?

Anyway, unless my visa doesn't work out, I'M GOING!  ;D

My boys are 3 and 6. Hope it all goes well for you, too!

I'm about ready to have a nervous breakdown, but hopefully will feel like we've made the right decision in a few weeks' time! :)  :-\\\\

I'm moving in 9 days and I've been doing the same thing.  No words can describe my disdain for packing!  This will be the 9th time that I have moved in 6 years.  You would think I'd be used to it by now!

Yeah I have lived in 6 different states in the last 4 years (due to the nature of the political work I did) on top of traveling every couple of weeks but I think what has me a bit freaked out is that I can't just zip home to get things I forgot or have someone easily and cheaply (is that a word) mail me things I forgot.  Eck!  I also am doing 3 months in the Netherlands before actually my final destination of England so come Dec. I have to do this all over again. Oh dear!

CQ, at least we are in the packing misery together but just think in just a few days we'll have reached out goal, kind of!  Good luck!

I'm leaving Wednesday, and the panic has started to set in!

EEEK!
This whole process has been nearly impossible for me and cost a crap ton more than I expected it to, so I hope I love England forever and ever.

Goods, are you leaving Wednesday? I'm flying through Minneapolis that day, maybe we'll be at the airport at the same time(assuming that you are flying from there)! :P
