I'm just not enjoying X factor this year and really wish there could be a real talent show for people who really have talent and can actually play musical instruments and write their own songs.

I think a lot of the contestants probably do play instruments and write songs, but they just haven't managed to get anywhere doing what they do on their own. So they come on a show like X-Factor and hope they do well and get some publicity. If they win, they make their obligatory crap album, and are then free to write and record their own stuff. Better yet, they don't win but come in the top 5 or so - that way, they get signed by a label and start doing what they want to straight away. I think they just X-Factor as an outlet for getting them where they need to be.

I'd like to see a show like X-Factor / BGT that was focused on bands. I think I caught a glimpse of a show like that one weekend morning on one of the music channels, but never figured out what it was.  ??? I just think it's kind of silly to have a group, yet no one plays any instruments.  ::) But, I am also much more into rock music than pop music, so I guess maybe that's why I feel that way.
Not to mention, if someone is a great musician and songwriter, they can often get by with a less than amazing voice (Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Kurt Cobain, and so many others are like this) because it works with the songs they write and perform.

I didn't agree with Cheryl choices. I think Duane was better than a couple of the ones she chose. I am reallllly glad she didn't choose opera guy though. *shudder*

I couldn't believe Simon didn't choose TreyC. I thought she was actually pretty good. I don't really like Danyl. He seems a little too eager and desperate. I think Daniel (mohawk) would have been a wayyy better choice. I kind of understand the thing Simon said about not choosing him because of wanting to give others a shot at a first chance. But then in that case, why ever put him through as far as they did if they were only going to say you've had your shot now give someone else theirs?

For the girls, I like Stacey and Lucie. I think Dannii made the best choices out of all of the judges.

The twins are horrible and I hope they're gone quickly. I don't like any of the groups really and I can't see the strippers getting many votes.

That's a fair point. But I assume at the time, they didn't realise how strong the category was going to be. I do think he was good, though. I really liked all the over 25's, so I was sad to see any of them go, to be honest.

I liked the choices for the girls. The choices for the boys could've been better. Louis would've been better off taking that other girl band or those other two guys instead of those silly twins, but then again, it really doesn't matter as probably most of the groups will be gone right away, considering there are so many other stronger singers in the competition.

So, um, WHAT was up with that comment by Dannii to Danyl?!! Who cares whether the guy is gay or not! Shouldn't she have been commenting on his performance?! I think that was crap calling him cocky and overly-confident. The guy is just trying his best like everyone else. Most of the other people were told they should be more confident, and this guy comes off as too confident? I thought his performance tonight was pretty subdued, actually. I can't believe Dannii and Cheryl treated him that way. But to make suggestive comments about his sexuality was way out of line, in my opinion.  >:(

Yeah I thought Danni overstepped the mark too. I thought Danyl and Joe were the best, although I didn't see the whole show.  Joe definitely has a lot of charisma and he's so telegenic, my god!

Totally agree; she really was out of line.  I felt really bad for him; he sang wonderfully and it should have been a real highlight for him; and they pretty much sh!t on it.  And who the hell is Louis to call someone cocky when he's the one that put through those annoying, full of themselves twins.

I actually thought Dannii was disgusting tonight and was completely out of line. It was a low blow and could hurt his chances badly, there was generally no need for it. I still absolutely detest arrogant mugging Danyl, but no one deserves to be put on the spot like that. It was SO awkward.

I also think Danii was out of line and completely uncalled for, but honestly, I think Louis was right about Danyl not having "likability."  I really don't care for him, although he is a good singer, and I wish Simon would have opted for one of the women in his top 6 instead.

However, I'm mostly just hoping no one will vote for John and Edward.

Totally Agree with you, I would have taken any of the 3 Simon didn't pick over Danyll and that Essex Bloke.

Everyone keeps saying how great that Essex bloke is and how everyone loves him, I just don't get it! He seems like an arrogant idiot to me, I just don't get that "cheeky chappie" thing I guess!

I loved Stacey tonight, was interesting to see her singing in her upper register and I thought she coped with it well. Lucie has a sweet voice but that song was way too big for her and I agreed with Simon on that. I also just generally liked Miss Frank.

I thought Kandy Rain were much improved as they were pretty dire during the auditions, and I think they should keep their stripper look, if they'd come out demure it would have looked so fake. They should just be honest about who they are.

The twins just do my head in, honestly I can't STAND them at all. Just everything about them drives me nuts!

I like Danyl, actually. He has a great voice and is a great performer. Olly is ok, but I think Tracye would've been a better choice (or the other lady.)  I love Stacie's personality, I think she is adorable, and she did well. She makes me smile because she is so goofy.
Joe is my favourite. Of course, we were rooting for the Geordie, though.  :) DH was giving it the ole "Haweh, Joe." LOL.

This.  I was shocked at her and couldn't believe how awkward it was. It was so sad to hear him say in a small voice "I am not ashamed" and then start welling up.  There was no need.  And she sat there with a smug little smile like she had said the most clever thing.  And considering how much she and her sister rely on the gay community for their success, how gross was it to try and use Danyl's sexuality against him.

No joke. Imagine the embarrassment he must have felt knowing his students, their parents, and his family and work colleagues were watching that.  :-X >:( What if he wasn't "out" to them? That's no way to treat someone. I know she said she saw it in the papers, but not everyone reads the papers, and I certainly never heard anything about him being gay, nor would I care whether he was or not. It's a talent competition. It shouldn't matter.

Yes, important point, which I left out.  He is a teacher and this music thing may not work out for him.  For better or worse, some people do not like gay teachers.  It wasn't her place to out him on that level when it could affect his career.

PS I don't get that olly guy either.  Do not get it.
