Do You Rinse Your Dishes?
« on: September 29, 2010, 04:46:35 PM »
My mum-in-law thinks I make double the work for myself by rinsing the dishes after I wash them. She insists that no one here rinses the dishes. She says that they wash, cloth dry them, and put them away. But then on an episode of Come Dine with Me, I saw 2 of them rinse their dishes. Sooooo....

Do you rinse your dishes?

Do your in-laws?

Heh, I always rinsed my dishes before I came here.  My husband and our two roommates don't.  I thought it was strange, but I just stopped rinsing because its less work and the dishes don't get rinsed when the other 3 people in the house do it so why not?

I do, but my husband doesn't which is why I don't allow him to wash the dishes. I can't let it go and I get stressed about him not rinsing them, so it's better for everyone if I just do them myself!  :P

My friends in Scotland don't.  I do and so do my in-laws because my brother in law has a health condition and soap residue really affects him badly.   :\\\'(

I always rinse as does my husband. When we had housemates they weren't allowed to wash because they didn't rinse and the dishes were never clean.

Yes, yes, yes!  I rinse and I think not rinsing is gross.  :-X  Hubby doesn't and they are always still greasy / food chunks on them.  I just do them over or give them a good rinse without complaining about it (he always just leaves them in the drainboard thing anyway).

Mil doesn't rinse, but at least they don't seem greasy, etc.  When I do dishes at her house I do them my way, which is rinsing.

I rinse.  There is no way I would ever stop rinsing.  I think BF rinses too, though we have a dishwasher so there isn't much opportunity to notice except for non-stick pans that can't go in the dishwasher (which BF used to put in the dishwasher because he was lazy, and he wondered why they went to crap!).

His dad, however, does not rinse but insists on washing dishes (even though they have a dishwasher too.)  When his dad is over, my BF just ends up putting everything his dad washes in the dishwasher anyway.  :P

My aunt washes all her dishes by hand, then she runs them through the dishwasher. The rest of the family thinks she's crazy.  ::)

I always have to chime in on these threads when they pop up... my friend, who is a food scientist, says not rinsing is NOT a good idea. Even if you can't see them, there are still tiny particles of food in the soap. I swear I don't understand why this isn't obvious to everyone!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
