That's because you're no longer declining their request to be friends, you're ignoring it. Unless you go block them and/or decline their request they'll be following you but you won't be following them. They won't see anything you make "private" but anything that's public will show up in their timeline.

Except, it might not because of the update ranking. Have you guys read this? Even in the "most recent" setting you don't see all of your friends, just the most popular ones. And regular status updates are less likely to show up than links and pictures.  Basically it's all the reasons why I prefer twitter.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-10-18/the-facebook-news-feed-how-it-works-the-10-biggest-secrets/

I found this out the other day.  Someone sent me a request several weeks ago.  I thought I was declining but apparently I missed the updated settings thing.  Yesterday someone said something to me about my trip to London.  I hadn't talked to her in over a week and she's not on my Facebook so I asked her how she heard about that and she said from 'person I declined friend request to' because she saw it on Facebook.   :o

She's been able to view every update, everytime I friend someone, all my pictures...everything.  I've updated all my setting now and still in the process of sorting out groups and privacy settings but it was a big shock to me.

Of course, after having my entire computer hacked into and remotely accessed for the past 2 weeks...I guess I've learned how unsecure the internet is full stop...and definitely going to be more careful in the future.   :(

(Sorry for the side track)

What really really bugs me is when people have a fun night out (usually with lots of drinking) and they post up like 100 photos of them being really drunk. I just wonder if this is supposed to make other people feel bad that they don't party as much or that they don't particularly like drinking?

Facebook just annoys me in general uggghhh.  >:(

I don't Facebook and have no interest in it.  However, some prospective employers do.  The company where one of my SILs works recently declined to offer a job to someone who posted photos such as those described above on his Facebook.  The employer Googled his name, and it apparently popped up pretty quickly.

I suppose they just want to show that they are "fun" people.

Just when I thought I was feeling depressed enough today... I got another frickin friend request from "the incubator"!  Who I thought I had blocked on Facebook!!! And when I went to block her again I clicked on her name and

SHE's LISTED ME AS HER CHILD ON FACEBOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

Not my full name, mind you.  But under children she has "Jennifer, 38"

ETA: After I just blocked her again I saw she'd sent me a message!

Ohhh, I think in this case, I'd create a new account with a fake name/nickname, tell all my facebook friends that I actually like to find me under said name, and then delete the old one.

Ugggh - sorry!!!

Yeah only problem there is I'd want old schoolfriends still to be able to find me.

Noticed something weird today.

If I look at my FB Friends Suggestions page, it shows, as expected, people who are friends of my friends.

However, it also shows some random people who aren't friends with anyone I know. I have no idea who these people are.

Do you belong to any groups or fan pages Sweetpeach? They may be mutual members from a group you belong to.  ???

They don't seem to share common interests with me. Although it's weird because they have most of their profiles hidden, so they must be concerned about privacy as well.

I get this sometimes.  It will be like really random people from Russia or something (sometimes people who probably don't even speak English).  I think as others mentioned it could be if you are both in a group or if you both 'like' the same thing (like perhaps a TV show or a book in your interest section).  For instance, if you both listed "Top Gun" as one of your favourite movies, Facebook might link you together (even if you can't see their profile to know the shared interest).

it's gotta be something like that as I get friend requests from people all over the world who play the harp.  My name must have come up from the fact that I've "liked" lots of different harp pages, etc.

I have my privacy settings set pretty tight (at least I think I do). What do you do to make sure  people we decline can't get updates other then set "friends only" on your privacy? Am I missing something? It just creeps me out that people I obviously don't want in my life can still see things on my page even though we are not friends.

You need to make sure you go into the ignored requests and actually decline the person.

I can't seem to find that on my home page. Where is it?
