Ugh, I'm glad you're okay!!! I'm dropping mine off at my parents' for a few weeks just to be rid of it for a little bit and see how I get on. I can't totally get rid of it until after my friend comes to visit from Scotland at the end of October (airport pick-up/drop-off and we're going to be road-tripping a bit) so we'll see how I feel about it then!

Makes sense! My insurance is paid through the end of the month and I don't want to renew it for another 6 months. It's going to go sit in my parents' driveway indefinitely, it's not like it's worth anything to sell it and my dad seems to think I'll need it again someday. Going to take advantage of a deal from Living Social to join Carpingo (like zipcar but cheaper (for now) and based in BK).

There's a new local pumpkin beer named after the park next to our house.  The label has pictures of some of the places in the park. Cool, right!? Well, I bought some for DH to try and I didn't realize until I already purchased it that it was 9%. We've been through this before with Sierra Nevada Torpedo. The night he had two of those (on top of a variety of other beers) we had the only huge fight of our relationship. This is not cool at all.

I cannot remember drinking my second cup of coffee. I know I made one, and the empty cup is in the sink, but seriously no recollection. Jetlag sucks!

Ha! We just got the Sierra Torpedo on tap at work and I've been trying to warn people before ordering that it's 7.2% just in case. It's not really a problem if you're only having one (or two) of only that (preferably while eating) but it's definitely not a session beer!

The Pumking beer is really high too--8.6% ABV but it's sooooo delicious. A pumpkin beer that actually tastes like pumpkin!

They're doing construction on the next block up from ours and it's restricting parking for a month. This means the parking on OUR block is going to be a nightmare as all those people need somewhere to go. I need to run an errand after my husband comes home this evening, but I don't want to risk losing my spot. It's all really annoying.

Oh BostonDiner, I feel your frustration!
I found that out when I was over last summer & we were trying to find someone to level out the garden & build a deck.
Call after call after call was made to various builders, it was a lot of no shows, no calls or texts....it was beyond hugely frustrating !!! >:(
Finally got someone who actually showed up to do an estimate, but he still took 3 weeks longer then promised to actually start and finish the work.
Hopefully your plumber will come and do the job he promised to do for you!

All the freakin' time!!  We've been waiting 10 weeks now for someone to have a look at our Rayburn, because the back boiler is leaking.  We can't relight it in the meantime, and the kitchen is starting to get cold, especially at night.  Plus, I really miss the warming oven.

We've asked 3 times, when are they going to come.  And all we get is, 'oh, well, we haven't got anyone going to the south end this week.  Maybe next week.'  Really??  So what you're saying is, you don't think our job is worth your time.

I've tried phoning other plumbers as well, but no one ever phones back.

In fact, I'm pretty steamed up now, so I'm marching right down to their office to sort this out.  BostonDiner, if you want to PM me the phone number, I'll sort yours out, too! :p

Thanks woadgirl  ;D but our guy phoned the next day to say that his no. 1 plumber had gone down the week before with a collapsed lung ! and he himself had been playing catch-up all week to pick up the slack. He "promises" to start on Monday.  We'll see ...

Just an update for anyone worried - haven't gotten very far I'm afraid. I got a GP appointment and was referred to do CBT. I called and made an appointment with the place and upon reading the reviews I quickly called and canceled. I know a lot of times on review sites you will only read bad and good reviews are not usually there, but by the bad views I can tell you I don't want to be mixed up with them. So, I'll try the sliding scale places and see what happens.

What about CAB, StealthG?  Have you been to CAB yet?  I'd imagine your mental health would improve if you heard some good news from CAB.

Tell your DH (or do it yourself) to go onto the HMRC website... they'll have a calculator there that will estimate how much he can get in tax credits, and then organise it to happen!

StealthG, there's also the Money Advice Service:

ETA: My IA is having cr@p sleep off and on for about 2 weeks. Making me a little crazy. No idea what is causing it, other than I am too cold and MR MLG is too hot.  ::)

StealthG, keep in mind that those are only half a dozen reviews, and that usually only people who have had a bad experience will complain, so there may be dozens or hundreds of people who had a good experience and never bothered to review it. It also looks like most of those people have severe mental illness and were in-patients in a psych ward, which is usually a very negative experience no matter what. For the sort of thing you'd be doing, theses reviews are probably irrelevant, and they might be very good for out-patient depression therapies. I would try to get other views on their service before dismissing them completely.

StealthG, to echo DrSuperL99, there's also sucking it and seeing. It might work for you. And often, people don't shout about good experiences. It just gives you another option to try.

Stealth, I've done CBT. It is not perfect. The NHS has adopted it as the first line of treatment as it supposedly shows results and is 'trackable' - so it is cost effective. I read a lot about mental health and was not thrilled with being referred.

But you know my wife grilled me about it and told me to go and to keep an open mind, and while I am not now blissful by any means, I found it useful. It gives you techniques to stop depressive thoughts and feelings from spiraling downward.

My gripe was that CBT doesn't really address the real problem, but it can help you to not waste mental energy while you try and sort out the big stuff.
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC
