Boiler is fixed and the radiators are heating up again :D!

Most boiler repairs are cheap, I'd imagine KSAND is looking at £200 or so and she'll be set for years, and she was sorted in a short time on the busiest plumbing day of the year.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what counts as cheap for a boiler repair - the quote they gave me was in the £200s, and just under half of it was the labour/call out.

Seems very reasonable to me.  Glad they got you up and running today!

I didn’t get the job I applied for internally. Which I was fine about(honestly), until, I heard the person I “lost” to is a new member of staff from our call centre and knows a senior manager who helped put together her presentation for the interview.  In hindsight, maybe I should have done the same but I hate how ass kissy my office is. If you’re a favourite/brown nose  they will bend over backwards for you. And I learned this lesson to late, and I don’t really think I need to kiss butt. My work and work ethic should be enough. So I was annoyed. Not because I didn’t get the job ( I honestly thought my mate got it and he was well deserving of it), but for the reason behind it. I wish I could leave,but we want to have a baby this year and don’t want to risk me not being eligible for mat benefits if I start a new job. . Anybody free to teach me office politics? Lol never been somewhere that I don’t succeed.

I fail at it too. Many years ago I realised the nearly incompetent but friendly women who wore almost inappropriate clothing and all the makeup were getting promotions so I played the part for a bit and it worked (as much as I could, short skirts and low cut tops aren't for me), but then I got sicker and couldn't even wear the clothes or makeup required for that. But by then my work had spoken for itself and I was indispensable. Now... Starting over... I have a lot of comfy but professional clothes and hopefully will have an interview soon, but I stick with "what you see is what you get". I'm sorry it's like that where you are :(

It’s truly horrible. It’s not even hidden that favouritism is going on. The head of my department frequently buys her favourites gifts etc.  But I’m not one of them... never have been, even though my team relies on me to do crucial pieces of work that I’m never able to train anybody ekes up on it.  So they should treat me well as I’m the only one who can do it. But anyways,  I hope you get an interview soon! I hate job hunting it can be so nerve wracking.

That's such bullshit, Eh! I hate stuff like that, it's so unfair and not really an unbiased way to choose the person best qualified for the job. You shouldn't have to kiss ass. The quality of your work, if you're delivering, should out-do somebody less qualified that knows and feels okay giving a hollow comment to somebody higher up.

Ugh, the first job I had in the UK was like that (the role that I was brought to the UK for).  Sooooo not for me.  I don't do kissing up or playing politics.  Fortunately once I moved out of that toxic environment, I've found that it was isolated at that office.

I flat out know of at least one person in particular I used to work with at my old job who were in the sales area (I was an analyst for the sales teams) who wasn't making numbers but wasn't fired strictly because the manager of that particular sales team thought she was hot. Other people were fired if they were unable to hit their targets  after x-amount of quarters, but she basically would have the lads in her team help do her work (and she'd try to get me to help her with the pricing to a point it was BAD for business and I would say no) and had the manager eating out of the palm of her hand. She played dumb a lot about stuff and instead of being fired when she kept missing her goals, they would just lower her goals. I just knew I never wanted to be that person.

Have you had the joy of working at an office where everyone was sleeping with everyone else (and all married)?

That's fun....   ::)

Not everybody, but one married Team lead was shagging an intern and was caught in a quiet room after hours by cleaning staff LOL. There were definitely people sleeping around but the bigger problem was cocaine use.

Oh, that sounds like every call center I ever worked in! *sigh* One place they intentionally put all the women in customer service and the men in tech support, I was one of 3 women on the entire tech side. When I made it clear I wasn't interested in a manager people started messing with my work station and basically making my life a living hell, but there was "no evidence" according to the HR person who was sleeping with the techs doing it! I do not miss that culture at all!
