Just catching up on what I missed while away. Glad to see Tami's situation worked itself out in the end and really sorry to here about the house situation Albatross! That is absolute sh*t. :(

I've only got a first-world IA to complain about....my IA is that I was SOOO looking forward to what we all know (and - most of us - love) of bagels....walked all the way to the bagel shop and found out THEY ARE CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS UNTIL OCTOBER! UGHHH...
My, how time flies....

My whole family is sitting inside.  I’m outside.  Am I really the only one who appreciates this view?

Do you have wine?  If so, who cares where everybody else is or what they're doing.   :P

Enjoy!

We're about to put our house on the market....a house 2 doors down from us just was listed at 15k lower than what we were going to ask and what was originally evaluated at and it has better curbside appeal because they actually care/are good at doing their garden and we inherited a crock of sh*t (to be blunt) as the drive isn't nice and flat and paved, etc....so ultimately, we now have to price it 15k lower...which means we'll get even lower than that..... The likely reason why is that we think the older person (people?) that lived in that house died. There's no onward chain and they are just wanting a quick sale so they've priced aggressively (as another house went for like 20k+ more a month or two prior). I am already stressed enough at work and with trying to make sure I pass this LitUK test, this is literally not something I really wanted to deal with as well as we already have a place we want but need to get our place sold and at a certain value for us to be able to get into this new place.

Just makes me want to crawl into a hole and stress eat/cry (not even a crier but I'm feeling so stressed lately that I genuinely cannot even help it). Once I get the test out of the way, it'll be a medium weight off my shoulders so looking forward to that.

If another house comparable to yours just sold for £20k more, can you ignore the one two doors down?  It does sound like the family are just trying to liquidate the estate as quickly as they can.  If it is aggressive as all that, it'll sell, and you'll be next in line.  Also, have you seen the inside?  Maybe it needs all the stuff doing to it that you've already completed on your house.

You've got this test.  Just remember to take your time and thoroughly read each question and all of the possible answers before marking your choice.  And breathe!

Yeah it was an older couple there I believe and my husband pointed out that we've not seen a car there in a while (and they always have their blinds open, even at night, so it seems like the house may very well be vacant with there either being a death or a move to a nursing home/family member's? it's swings and roundabouts really as theirs is slightly more dated from what I can see in the pictures and ours is more a blank slate (front and back garden wise) with the kitchen potentially needing an upgrade but we also just did the bathroom, added a second bathroom, and will have an extra usable room with our loft space that we just can't list as a room (was there before we moved in and it's not certified to be a bedroom but can be listed as a bonus room) which may hurt or help us (depending on the potential buyer).

I think I'm more nervous because I don't know what to expect and I'm not great with tests. I find it hard to focus and that's when I end up rushing to get through without reading properly, etc. I know I know the material (passing all mock exams - got 100% on one today), but I'm afraid I'll get in there and my mind will go into overdrive and just go blank.

Also, it says for mail that there are to be no printouts....my mail is a printout but looks the same as what I get in the mail...so there's a 50-50 they could turn me away or, if I fold it correctly, they may not notice and let it slide. It's my gas and energy bill that is the online statement (same as what is received in the post) but will they be able to tell based on the paper I use or something?! I'd like to think I'm overthinking it but I know that they are SUPER strict so unlikely that I'm worried for nothing...

Gal at work was doing her test and showed me this website (she was taking practice tests at lunch):

https://lifeintheuktests.co.uk/

You may want to check it out and see what sort of questions trip you up.

I'm using lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk and that supposedly has helped a lot of people pass first time just by studying the exams. I read the book as well but my friend who passed the life in the UK exam a few weeks ago said she gave up on the book and just went for the 15 mock exams and the questions were on the test so I'm hoping that the book + doing these mock exams is going to help...still sh*tting bricks though just not knowing what to expect. People can tell you a million times over, but it's hard to have no first-hand experience!

Ditch the book.  It's an absolute snoozefest.

I tried reading it.  I really did.  But I gave up after the first couple of chapters and settled for taking practice exams over and over again every chance I got (I had an app on my phone).  When I was passing them fairly regularly, I booked my test.

They don't tell give you your results - it is strictly pass or fail.  But I have a sneaking suspicion I got 100% - there were only two questions I was unsure of and I just guessed after having narrowed down the answers some.  Googled them afterwards and had guessed correctly.

You'll find that a large portion of the questions are blatant tests of your knowledge of English.

Just breathe.  You'll be fine.  You'll be in and out of there in about 5 minutes.

My Turkish friend who passed a few weeks ago was like "IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT!" and she studied off that website I linked ONLY and only off the 15 practise exams so hoping there aren't too many out of left field! It's more about not knowing what to expect and the fact I suck at tests due to it being so hard to stay focused and then I get bored and misread LOL But I'm committed to reading everything thoroughly BEFORE clicking the answer and moving on. If I'm unsure, I'll flag it and leave it. I need to not treat it like it's a race or be focused on getting 100% to the point that it throws me off and I overthink.

She said she was in and out in 5 mins. I've almost made it all the way through the book now and I'm consistently passing the tests on that website (few 100%s and the rest 90% ranges).

Can you remember anything they asked you?
