Her stuff gets donated to my charity shop frequently.  Don't know if that means it's not good enough to keep.

That's where I bought my copy, a charity shop  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

I think Dan Brown is the highest donated author.... no surprise there!  :P

Just finished Philippa Gregory's White Queen. I had never read any PG before, but I found the characters in this one a bit wooden. Are any of her other works worth reading, or is it always like that?
That one was definitely a dud. The Boleyn sisters ones are pretty good. I also like Earthly joys and Virgin earth about the plant hunter Thomas Tradescant. (Think I got those from a charity shop!  ;))

I think the Philippa Gregory stuff can get quite repetitive quite quickly.  I just finished an ARC of "Johannes Cabal: The Fear Institute". I was AWESOME.  If you like quirky/clever/sarcastic central characters, this may be the series for you. (We have reviews of the other two up on bookgeeks:
http://www.bookgeeks.co.uk/?s=johannes)

Next, I'm reading "The Pleasure of Reading in an Age of Distraction". Looking forward to it.

I've also recently read the Caravaggio bio: A life sacred and profane.  It was excellent.

The Johannes Cabal stuff sounds very interesting. My favorite book of all time is Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell...and it seems a bit along these lines!

Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh, I love that book!  I wish the author would write something else (do you know if she has?)

She had a collection of short stories too, but I haven't read them. I don't fault her for not publishing much else though, that book is so exhaustive and completely epic! I would probably just call it a day after that one :D

I read the short story collection after really loving Jonathan Strange ... but the stories just didn't measure up. It was odd because I generally adore short stories, but I honestly thought hers were a bit rubbish.  :-\\\\
