Mine are far apart, so we’ll see. I flew over thinking I had everything good to go and sent my application once I landed in California. Then upon reviewing I realised I needed docs from England and Australia, so I pushed back my biometrics 10 days and didn’t send docs until a week after that. So there are 20 days from applying online to receiving docs.

The lack of communication from the Home Office is ridiculous. I’m kicking myself I didn’t apply from Australia before we moved to Bristol.

Well, that's an interesting question. For the non-priority people, I think that I've noticed that the not straightforward emails have been getting generated based on the application date/biometrics date (it's hard to tell because these two are generally pretty close together).

For me personally, I've just been counting since the day my documents arrived because I never receive the email stating that they did. However, if I go off of my application date, I should be expecting a not straightforward email late next week or the week after.

For US applications, they cannot start processing the application until they receive the documents in Sheffield... because Sheffield are not going to take responsibility for those 20 days the application was in your hands before you mailed it to them.

Otherwise you could contact them and say:
'It's been 60 working days, why haven't you processed the application yet?' and they would be like
'Well, you didn't send us your documents until working day 20, so you can't hold us responsible for those 20 days. We've only had your application for 40 working days, so that's the timeline we're working on.'

In other countries you submit your documents at the biometrics appointment and Sheffield receive them right away, so in those countries, the processing time starts from the biometrics date. In the US, it doesn't work that way, so you can't use the same dates to work it out.

Off-topic, but you'll be living in Bristol? Whereabouts? I was born in Bristol and grew up about 15 miles north of the city :). My parents are still there and actually I'll be in Bristol tomorrow (I've been working abroad for the last 4 months, but I'm moving home tomorrow, and my parents have been looking after my car).

We just moved into our new place in Bishopston in the beginning of January, right before I left. Husband got to deal with the fun task of unpacking boxes and getting things in order, while caring for our two pups and working full time. He is looking forward to me being home to lighten the load! Haha

Where in Bristol will you be located? How long are you planning to stay? I swear after this goes through, he’ll say let’s move somewhere in the EU and I’ll have to do this for the 3rd time!

Couldn’t agree more! How backlogged is it right now?? I am sorta happy to know I’m not alone in the wait, but at the same time it makes me think what are they doing? I keep looking on bbc and other news sites to see if there is some sort of logical reasoning (like government shut down type thing) but obviously nothing.

Guys, I know it might not seem like it, but this is the best time of year to apply. In summer the waits are a lot longer.
Hopefully you will here something soon.  :)

It’s ok and completely normal to feel like that when your application is being processed, we’ve all been there! Just trying to cheer you up a bit is all.  :)
