Priority Spouse Visa FALL Timeline (Oct-Dec)
« Reply #225 on: November 10, 2017, 04:01:07 PM »
It's interesting to hear that there can be a 9BD (and presumably more) discrepancy in this process. That's almost 2 weeks, and we've all paid a fair chunk of change to be processed as promptly as possible. If information is missing or incomplete then that's fair enough, but aside from that a 2 week difference seems excessive to me. I guess that's government workers for ya!

It’s not unusual at all - if one person has missing documents, a previous refused visa or refused entry to the UK, that can add 2-3 weeks to the processing time right there.

Also, it depends how many applications arrive on any given day. If Person A’s is the first application received/logged that day, but your application is the 100th application received/logged that same day, then there are now 98 applications that have to be processed after Person A’s and before yours.

Wait... am I understanding this right that the decision email is just "we made a decision" and you have to wait AGAIN to receive the decision by UPS?! Seriously?! It's like they designed the process specifically to maximize the pain and anguish.

Yes sir, lol.  The e-mail just tells you they've made a decision.  You don't actually find out what that decision is until you get the delivery back in the mail.  Fun times!!!

I can't remember who, but someone on here said they used to tell you the decision in the e-mail, but no longer.  If I had to guess, I'd say it's because they messed up a time or 2 and told the person the wrong information.
Applied from Sin City, USA
Submitted online priority spouse visa Nov 2nd
Biometrics appointment completed Nov 6th
Package mailed to Sheffield Nov 6th
Received in Sheffield & e-mail received Nov 8th
Decision e-mail received Dec 5th
Approved or denied?    Approved!  Received Dec 7th

Back when settlement visas were processed in New York (before March 2013), you were told the decision in the email. However, when they moved the processing of settlement visas to Sheffield, it turned out that Sheffield’s emails were worded differently and did not tell you the decision.

So,
- if you apply for any other kind of visa except a settlement visa (so a work, student or visitor visa), you still get told the decision in the email because they are all processed in New York
But
- if you apply for a settlement visa, you will not get the decision in the email because it is processed in Sheffield

I think you could take out the spouse/marriage column all together.  :). At the timeline stage, it doesn't make a bit of difference as they are processed in exactly the same way. It would make it easier to read at a glance and be less work for you too!  :)

I think it's because people would immediately start respond to the emails as to why they shouldn't have been denied and Sheffield didn't want to deal with all of those emails at that stage.

The reason I think that is I was denied back in January 2014 and found out in my decision email. Apparently they had already stopped telling you if you were approved or denied for the most part by then. And I successfully got them to approve us before they shipped it back as the previous denial was calculated differently then this one's. We had misunderstood how the financial requirement worked the first time and I wasn't on UKY yet.
The usual. American girl meets British guy. They fall into like, then into love. Then there was the big decision. The American traveled across the pond to join the Brit. And life was never the same again.
