While I didn't wake up to an e-mail, one just arrived a few minutes ago!

Awesome!  ;D. Another one! Looks like someone decided to clear off their desk before the weekend!  ;D

I should update my timeline, especially as I realized that I'd miscalculated what the first business day was due to a time change mix-up:

Applied in Canada: 19 October 2017
First e-mail from UKVI: 24 October 2017
Decision e-mail from UKVI: 17 November 2017
Now awaiting my visa and return of documents...

So this took 19 business days, including the 24 Oct. and today (17 Nov).

Add me to the list I got a decision made email!! Tracking arrived right after but hasn’t moved yet. My mom bet me $5 that today would be the day and it looks like I lost! Not mad about it though😁

Visa approved!!!!!
Now to book a ticket. Any advice on telling your family you’re leaving and won’t make it for thanksgiving without them being sad?

I’m so excited but i felt bad how happy i was telling my mom the visa was approved and she started crying because i won’t be here.

They'll be sad no matter what you say. But if they love you, they'll be happy for you

Congrats!

Congratulations! And I have no advice but instead empathy! I have to decide whether to fly straight to the UK for a couple of weeks and then back home for Christmas, or whether I wait four more weeks to see my fiance when he flies to be with my family for Christmas. Christmas is a kind of non-negotiable time for my family and this year they are also hoping that I'll be home for the entire month of December. I'm somewhat afraid of all the guilt and anger that would/will be directed my way if I announce that I'm flying to the UK first. And the sensible side of me sees all the $$ we've spent on visas, and even our super modest small wedding, and says "these weeks will go fast, don't pay for another flight right now."

All this to say, I understand having to make complicated decisions that your family may not love surrounding being there for big holidays and it is tough.

It is super tough i hate to let my family down. I wish there was an easier way. I feel a bit selfish being so happy and excited. If I had no guilt if I’d leave tomorrow instead i chose to wait until Monday so i can visit family before i leave. I hope they understand.

Next week is definitely your week!!! That decision email is coming!!! ♥️♥️♥️

Unfortunately you might not have a choice in the matter. If your vignette travel dates end before Christmas, you will have to go to the UK by then. I also believe that the marriage fiancé visa is single entry (experts weigh in here?), so once you are in the UK you can’t leave until after you switch to FLR(M). You also have to be in the UK for 37 continuous days before you can get married, so if the visa is multiple entry and you can come back to the US for Christmas, keep that in mind for choosing a wedding date.

I expected that I wouldn’t be here for Christmas so my family has planned an early celebration before I leave, could that be a posibility?

Sorry to put more stress on you, just want to make sure you know the time restrictions so you don’t have more headaches down the line!

I say enjoy the holidays with your families in the US where possible.  I find the cost to return at Christmas prohibitive, and it's virtually impossible to have off in my profession.  So I haven't been "home" for Christmas since 1999 and I haven't been with family for Thanksgiving since 2009.   :\\\'(

That's not true.

The fiance visa vignette is valid for 6 months and is multiple entry. So caty is free to travel to the UK whenever she likes during the 6 months of the visa. She can also leave the UK and go back to the US as much as she likes BEFORE the wedding. It's only after the wedding that you cannot travel, because you are no longer a fiance and might not be allowed back into the UK on a fiance visa.

It's only the spousal visa vignette that is only valid for 30 days and you must enter and collect your BRP within those 30 days.

A fiancé visa is multi entry up until one marries.  You are only "stuck" from the time of marriage until the FLR(M) is approved.
