The 30 days will start from the ‘valid from’ date printed on your visa, which is normally the Intended Date of Travel that you put on the visa application, but recently they have been making the visa valid for 7 days before the date you put.

If the date you put has passed before the visa is issued, it will either be made valid from the date the decision is made, or for a date near that day.

In the unlikely event that the decision is made before the date you put, would you have to wait until the valid from date to travel?  Probably an obvious answer I know.

Yes, you would - unless they print an earlier date on the visa.

So you really want to put the earliest possible date you may wish to travel... and then if that date passes it’ll just be made valid from when the decision is made.

You don’t really want to be in a situation where you apply in November and put a date in February, but then the visa is granted in November and you want to leave immediately but the visa isn’t valid until February... so you have to wait 2+ months before you can travel to the UK.

Oh no! I put the end of January, assuming that the decision would take that long! :(

Yeah, the Intended Travel Date is your chance to have some say in when your visa starts, based on when you are available to travel.

You shouldn’t base it on processing times... if you want to travel as soon as possible, then put a date as soon as possible.

If the visa is processed by your date, then great - but if not, the fact that you put an early date is not an issue... they will just start the visa from when it is issued (or a few days later).

Woke up to an email today!

BD20. Good luck to everyone still waiting. Hopefully it's an approval!
Got the email!!  :o
While I didn't wake up to an e-mail, one just arrived a few minutes ago! (at around 3:05pm, UK time). I guess I'll know the decision shortly because an e-mail from DHL telling me that my package was on the way actually preceded my UKVI e-mail.

I know I don't know what the decision will be, but it's so, so nice to have some movement on this. My partner and I have both had intense work schedules the last couple of weeks and it's nice to have the weight of waiting off our shoulders as we go into the weekend. I've been able to keep pretty calm the last few weeks, but I was starting to not like weekends because they were 'waste' days that couldn't be counted towards working days. It was just so nice to be able to call him and say "well, whatever the decision is, it's made and we'll know SOON" instead of having him hopefully ask if I'd checked my e-mail only to have to say "you have no idea how often I check my e-mail [especially after about 12 business days had gone by] but there's still nothing."

I also know that my wait was incredibly short compared to what other people here have to go through and my thoughts are with everyone as we all wait it out!
Add me to the list I got a decision made email!! Tracking arrived right after but hasn’t moved yet. My mom bet me $5 that today would be the day and it looks like I lost! Not mad about it though
Visa approved!!!!!
Now to book a ticket. Any advice on telling your family you’re leaving and won’t make it for thanksgiving without them being sad?

I’m so excited but i felt bad how happy i was telling my mom the visa was approved and she started crying because i won’t be here.
Contacted for collection today.... gonna collect on monday...

Just one last question....
If your visa is refused how long do they take to refund the IHS?

No refund as yet so very hopeful.
Got my passport in hand today.. With a Big Lousy Yes"

I am very thankful for all your support!!

I hope the rest of you all will get your Visas asap and get to be with your partners before Christmas!

Happy happy Thanksgiving and Advanced Merry Christmas Everyone!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D
I arranged for pickup at the UPS center near me. Just picked it up. Phoned hubby as I opened the package. It’s an APPROVAL!!!

I am so happy, excited, relieved. Wow. We did it.
Congratulations to all those decision made emails & those that have got the visa. Super happy for you all. Good to see a good end to Friday! Let's hope we see some action over the weekend too! Don't forget, they are working on weekends!

Yes, to get the backlog cleared. Looks like the ECO's don't want to hang around during the Xmas period & want to finish ASAP

Bring on more approvals & decision made emails :)

I'm not sure if they have been working every weekend. We just know that in busy periods (like the summer), they SOMETIMES work weekends... because people here on the forum have received their decision made emails on a weekend (and also at random hours of the day in the week).

Dang, that was so dumb of me! I didn't realize we had to wait until a certain day to travel, thought we could just go when we got the visa. Guess my worries are premature considering I don't even have an answer yet. I feel even more impatient now that I know the decision has been made ugh!  :-*

You might be lucky and they will not have honoured your intended date. They don't always.
