I miss pumpkin pie !
« on: September 07, 2019, 10:47:42 AM »
I think because autumn is coming I just miss going to an American restaurant and smiling because I know pumpkin pie is on the menu and just being able to order it with some coffee for dessert. I know you can make it but I’m a bit lazy I liked to go out and have it !!

I've honestly never ordered it at a restaurant! It's one of the easiest pies to make, so I guess that's why. Now I make it and serve with whipped coconut cream and its amazing.

Just feeling a bit nostalgic this time of year as we get closer to the holidays  and the ease of getting all things American in America !!

I miss real cheesecake.

What's 'real' cheesecake, and why is our cheesecake here not 'real'?  ???
(apologies if I've asked this before... if I have, I don't remember what the answer was!)

The only cheesecake I've had here was super fluffy, like a mousse. Don't know if that's been the case for others?

I am assuming folks mean 'real' cheesecake to be New York Style

New York Style Cheesecake = Baked
British Cheesecake = Not baked

Very different textures.

For me, real cheesecake is baked. Gelatin set "cheesecake" is not cheesecake...

OK, thanks... I must not be familiar with the baked kind.  I think my mom always used the Jello cheesecake mix in a box!

Yep, the recipes shared cover the difference. Baked cheesecake is what I had back home!

Additionally, the base is super important. Graham cracker crust is a must.

The cheesecake here is horrible!

Next time you get it or see it, can you take a picture and show us which one you're getting?  My husband laughs at me every time I bring home another disappointment cake.  He's had real cheesecake before, so he knows what we're after, and he's not able to find it, either.  But I keep trying.

Sure! It's got the right texture for me, but it is a bit sweeter and lacks the tang from the sour cream my dad spreads on the top.

This is the one I get. You can sometimes get two slices in the meal for £10 area if you'd rather try a smaller amount before getting an entire cheesecake.
