. Not many Irish out there, but there may have been at some point. Or it could have spontaneously started there as a custom on it's own.
Think it was also done in the wild west in a similar way so would make sense

Some people are putting up their Christmas tree in the window and putting the Christmas lights on.

Light, in whatever form, tends to uplift.

Bonus Christmas for you, Blossom!  :)

Bingle Jells, Bingle Jells, Bingle all the way.

I wonder if the song takes 20 seconds to sing?

Yeah, ok, someone neurotypical explain this to me.

What on earth good does it do for people to be shouting out their windows and banging pots and pans to "thank the NHS"?? The NHS is working and does not hear them. Would it not be better to be donating money (or services) to the NHS employees, in thanks?

As far as I can tell it was a "let's feel good and pretend like we can do something even though there's dick-all we can actually do" thing? So the only people it makes a difference to are the people doing it, and it's for themselves that they've done it.  ???

@Nan D. Put Sky news on, they will play it again. I just saw a clip of a front-line NHS doctor in tears because he was so grateful for the support the NHS is receiving from the public. He said he had taken his team outdoors so they could hear it. It gave me goosebumps to watch him.
This is why.  :)

It’s a weekly thing, every Thursday at 8pm.   :D

Few things unite this country like the NHS. Very humbling to see the massive support for our heroes!

Ahh i thought it was just a one-off! Good to know! Lol

The NHS definitely deserve all the depreciation. Even though it's massively stretched, it's times like these that i am so grateful to be in the UK and have the NHS!  Thank you NHS workers!

The only thing that bothered me about the clapping was that the news interviewed one woman who was taking credit for it and acting like she came up with the idea.   People in Spain and France have been doing this EVERY NIGHT for weeks.  It is not a new idea and very typical of the British to do a half-assed version of something good from another country and then pretend they invented it.

This made me chuckle.

It's nice to see how appreciated they feel.

All of my disabled friends are still struggling. They've had deliveries for years and now not only are the product limits keeping them from getting the limited foods they relied on, the minimum order ££ limits and lack of delivery slots mean they aren't eating. The government and stores completely forgot about people with autism and other disabilities. I haven't slept more than 4 hrs a night from anxiety and its starting to wear me down. If I didn't have my husband to cut the veg we've purchased from the local supplier I also would be going hungry.

I wasn’t a fan of his AT ALL. But I think he has properly stepped up and been a leader at this time. The programs he is getting into place so quickly for so many has not gone unnoticed by me.

But like GW Bush at Ground Zero in many ways.

This is exactly how I am feeling at the moment
Is it perfect? No. But could be a lot, lot, lot, lot worse.
