If the pollsters are correct, Trump's overall approval rating is still strong. Which means, especially if the Bernie Bros don't check their egos at the door and throw in behind Joe Biden, that we'll have Trump for another four years and this insanity will go on forever.

I'm watching my country implode. It doesn't make for a cheery disposition.

It's a shitshow for sure.   :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'( :\\\'(

As noted in my post above, this is a hell of a lot bigger than the UK (or the USA). India is turning trains into hospitals. It won't be enough.

My life is almost no different than it was prior to lockdown, with the primary difference being I cannot go out to a restaurant twice a week as I did before, nor look through the shops. It's not about me. Or you, specifically.
Apologies as it read as if the statements were specifically about our lives here in the UK ad a whole and less about a commentary on the overall world. But then there were a lot of people that never gave some parts of the world and their suffering a second thought until now so maybe that is a positive that can come from this?

I can't vouch for the accuracy of this, but it certainly is impressive.  It's a graph of US jobless claims, wait until the end to see now

I'm still extremely disappointed with the way Sainsbury's and all of the grocery stores managed this, but because I was able to check the boxes on the Gov online form for multiple conditions that would make me extremely vulnerable to Covid-19 I now have access for grocery delivery. There is tons of availability once you get permission to book. Sainsbury's really needs to scale up their customer service team and have a Web chat or Internet form because there are still so many who need access and don't have it (because blind and mobility challenged people weren't covered by the "vulnerable" list, and not all of them can use phones). *sigh* But that's a huge stress lifted for the next couple months so we can hunker down and hopefully not end up hospitalised. Once this is over I am going to change where we shop.

I'm curious where you'll switch to? Tesco is a sh*t show, I can only book grocery slots if I stay up until midnight when they release slots for 21 days from now. I don't see anything anywhere on the site that allows you to contact them about being vulnerable. (thought they all say if you use the government login you'll get preferred access). I don't think Morrisons or Asda is any better?

Are you going to go local?

The way it's supposed to work is the government has put together a list of vulnerable people based on NHS records. So if you're considered vulnerable because you're undergoing treatment for cancer (for example), the NHS tells the government, providing your email address if they have it. The government then provides all the email addresses to the supermarkets, who compare them against their databases of people who have signed up for online shopping. Then the supermarket is supposed to send you an email telling you how to get a priority slot for delivery.

The other way it can go is you self-identify as vulnerable on the government's website, providing your NHS number and email address. The government checks with the NHS, and if you're vulnerable, you go on the big list of email addresses that goes to the supermarkets.

That only works for specific conditions and if they have the same email registered with the various shops they're sharing the list with. Ocado has to be the worst of them. Before I was on "the list" I contacted their customer service and explained why I was vulnerable and they just essentially said "too bad" and wouldn't help.

Once I'm able to shop in public again, definitely supporting local businesses as much as possible! Longacres stocked most of the specialist things I bought from ocado, and what they didn't I can get from Suma when my buying club puts in an order.

I have to bring my kitty to the vet tomorrow :( She's still losing weight way too quickly and not eating enough food to gain. They pick them up from the door after you leave the carrier, and do a similar hand-off when returning the pet. I'm just glad they are still open! Now to make sure my car starts after not driving for quite a while.

I guess (but I do not know) that the government set it up the way they did because the government is the entity with the information about which people have what medical issues. How does Ocado know you're telling the truth about your medical condition? I'm not saying you, specifically, are or would lie about it, but I'm sure there are people who would, and then you'd have Tesco and Sainsbury's having to investigate who is telling the truth and making determinations about who gets priority.

With disabilities people should be given the benefit of the doubt, the number who would lie are small. By only allowing the limited conditions on the govt list to access what is an essential service to many (blind, homebound etc) means they are being discriminatory. I hope there are lawsuits because they have handled this horribly and with out accessibility in mind at all. There are huge numbers of disabled people who cannot use phones, and if the only way to access customer service is by phone that is in violation of the equalities act.

Cool. I was just curious. My husband has his 3 autoimmune diseases and I keep asking him if he'll sign up for it, just to see if it can help us or not. I really don't like having to stay up til midnight to book. Which is what I'll be doing tonight so we can get a delivery for 29 April.

We had to take Mylo (our whippet) to the vet Friday before last and they did something similar. Husband had to go to a specific bay and the vet came out to get him. He only got the appointment because we suspected an impacted anal gland. It had burst and after his antibiotics and pain meds, he is well on his way to getting better. I hope they can help your kitty!

If I remember right, there's a questionnaire that you have to fill out and also provide your NHS number. It's worth a shot.

With disabilities people should be given the benefit of the doubt, the number who would lie are small.

Your faith in your fellow human being is admirable, but the same people buying up all the pasta and toilet paper are the ones that would call up Tesco and lie about having a disability in order to get to the front of the grocery line.
