I am now trying to figure out how the hell to scan and upload every single passport page into one file! Oh dear

There are various apps for smartphones, one of which is called Soda PDF(on both Android and iOS) or you can use this online tool if you'd rather do it from your computer- https://www.ilovepdf.com/merge_pdf

Just take photos of each page, then the tool will magically merge them all into one pdf

We weren’t able to upload as one document. We had to scan in 4 parts and numbered each scan - pages 1-8 etc...

We have submitted on the UKVCAS website as we thought this would have been ok  ???

Either use an all in one printer/scanner/copier with its app, like Epson Scan and keep adding pages till you have finished or if no scanner use an app on your phone like genius - and again allows you to scan the whole document with lots of pages

Can anyone suggest what to do? Really don't want to confuse the whole situation by now trying to upload it as one image. Do you think they will be ok with how we have done it. As said before done it as separate scans roughly 8 pages per scan but put in description the pages per scan. We also have 3 passports to upload. Applicants new and expired passport and also sponsor.

I wouldn’t do anything.

If it’s an issue that it’s not all in one file, then they should let you know.

This thread is the first I’ve heard of the passport having to all be one file, so I would just leave it for now and if they contact you about it later, you can sort it out then.

I applied for ILR on April 15 and received email July 4 saying that they could reuse my biometrics.

Received email today reversing this, stating “Further analysis by UKVI has shown that you will NOT be able to use the new digital biometric reuse approach. This means that you will need to book an appointment at a UKVAS Service Point.”

Was able to book an appointment for tomorrow, but slightly annoyed that I’ve waited a whole extra month for them to decide this while others moved forward in the process.

Fingers crossed!

My guess is they haven't been able to implement a technology solution and caught up on pending applications, so you probably haven't experienced too much of an extra delay. I hope you have your decision soon!

I just received an email update on the new facial recognition tech.  (I applied for ILR on the 23rd March, with an email on the 3rd July advising they can reuse biometrics.)

It seems it will be via an app - and that we can opt out and go to biometrics instead (if we want).  I pasted a portion of it below.
——————

We recently wrote to tell you that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is changing the way it processes applications in response to COVID-19. For some customers, this involves reusing biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) that have been recorded in a previous application as part of the process to verify your identity, consider your application and/or produce a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).

To allow biometrics to be reused for some customers, UKVI and UKVCAS (UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services) have worked together to develop a way to submit facial images using a new UKVCAS Identity Verification app (referred to below as IDV app).

The IDV app lets you submit application information to UKVI without having to book or attend an appointment with UKVCAS. This new, free to use, way of submitting information to UKVI will involve you taking a photo of yourself and uploading supporting information onto your mobile device. The IDV app is quick and easy to use and works on most Android and iPhones.

When will the IDV app be available?

Rollout of the IDV app will take place in phases, beginning in August. We will invite eligible customers to use the new IDV app rather than require you to book an appointment at a UKVCAS service point.

UKVI have identified that you are eligible to use the IDV app, as UKVI can use biometrics you have previously provided.

I wonder if it's worth opting out of using the app or just using the app?

I was wondering this too... which one could potentially get a faster decision. Especially if some biometrics are for next day now.

I too received the APP email. I had similar thoughts as others.
Namely (1) How well with the app work and might we get caught up in a trial or 'beta' period that has its own bugs, and
(2) If biometric appointments are happening rather quickly, would it not be better to go for an appointment?
I guess I will hang in to see if the App thing moves ahead this week or not...
Fingers crossed.

We applied for my ILR on July 22nd. Haven't heard anything yet, as expected. Though I think if I find out I'm eligible for the app thing, I'll still opt for an appointment instead... We'd need an appointment anyways, as we're going to have our documents scanned. My husband works for the government and is big on security. Though I'm sure Sopra Steria is a secure site, he doesn't feel comfortable submitting our documents over the internet.

I applied on June 11 and received the same email. I'm going to use the app (what can I say? I'd rather deal with technology than humans these days). I don't have a car, which means I'd have to take public transportation in London. I am still not comfortable with that, since I live with someone who is very high risk.
