Well this is a bit depressing:
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/chile-coronavirus-vaccine-lockdown-whitty-b1827155.html
I'm concerned it may contribute to more people not being vaccinated as well. With the discussions on vaccine passports so many keep rehashing versions of "but you can still catch it when vaccinated so what's the point?"... The media are not doing a good job on reporting science in a way the general public understand it and they are jumping to the wrong conclusions which are being supported by friends and family. I'm really losing hope and struggling to stay OK mentally. (also need to get off one of the meds I needed to manage the vaccine reaction, it always triggers neuropsychiatric issues but it's the only effective med... So weaning this week!)

Today I sent him a message as I usually do about 08:30 but got no response. I could also see that he had not read it as we all use iMessage with read receipt. Not too worried I went round to his house to do a major clean and ventilation. My wife was going to join me but we got a text that our landscaper was coming to build a base for and install our new greenhouse. First day out of self isolating so perfect timing. As well as cleaning and airing out the house I stripped his bed to bring home his bed linens as well as his dirty laundry. Two sets of neighbours saw me as I was in and out so I talked with them at length bringing them up to speed. He has great neighbours and loves where he lives.

When I got home around 11:30 still no response, even to a second message I had sent. So we called the ICU unit he is on and talked with the doctor who brought us up to speed on the situation. She said that he is awake now and walked over to tell him that I was on the phone asking about him and if he wanted to pass on any message. He told her to tell me that he loved me and there was nothing he needs right now.

His situation has not changed but he still has a lot of nausea and struggles with the CPAP machine and had a very sleep disturbed night. He was now wearing a CPAP dome which suits him better but makes texting, phoning etc very difficult. She assured me that if he did take a turn for the worse that she or someone on the unit would call us.

30 minutes ago he sent me a text saying he thinks he is “rebounding” so that is just great. It’s just going be a long haul I think even if things go well.

I'm sure he's getting excellent care, hope he makes a speedy recovery!

Aside, for anyone who's already had the vaccine (particularly the Moderna one): Have you had any side effects related to short term memory?

In the last two days I've suddenly been having some epic problems with short term memory. Examples - I went to a new shop to get a couple of sandwich a few hours ago. They asked which kind I wanted, I had to go back to the board at the start of the line three times to get the name of the sandwiches during about 4 minutes of conversation. When I got to the till (at the end of the line, less than 5 minutes later), I again could not remember the name of the sandwiches or what was on them. It's like things are just not recording.  Went to Home Depot, needed to purchase some 2x6" boards to make a raised bed at the allotment. For the life of me I could not explain to the guy who was helping me what it was I wanted. I finally had to pull out my list and hand it to him.  Got the boards, got all the way back to the till, and then couldn't remember the price. (Had to go back to the stack of lumber to get it.) Was at the allotment this morning specifically to plant leeks, carrots, and some onion sets. Got the leek and carrot taken care of, and was getting ready to go. The Daughter had to remind me about the onion sets still sitting there in a pile. Got those done and was leaving the plot when the Daughter had to remind me I'd left my tools behind.

I handed over the car keys to the Daughter to do the driving, as I am not confident that my judgement is sound today. This has come on very suddenly in the last 48 hours. Other than having Covid Arm, some joint pain, and some unusual digestive things going on, and having a very strange odor, I seem to be otherwise well enough.  I am wondering if the vaccine is still doing things? I've done a Google and am not finding anything.

Moderna only just arrived in the UK, so not something I have heard much of.  Can you.report to the CDC? Hope you get back to yourself soon!

They've got some smartphone ap to do that, which, of course, won't work for me. I guess I'll peruse their website and see if there's anything there.

But if anyone does run into similar stuff, it'd be nice to hear about it. I am also having quite a bit of trouble focusing - would like to read a book but can't stay mentally focused enough to do it today.

I think you should probably have those symptoms checked out. Hopefully it's just a transient effect of the vaccine but there's always a chance it could be something more serious. Better to be safe if you can. Take care.

As PB says, no one in the U.K. has had Moderna (yet).

But I agree with Larabee, talk to your doctor. Could be sign of other things and not necessarily a reaction of the vaccine.

Hope you get better soon Nan.

The Moderna vaccine should start being used by mid-April over here. It was approved early January and 17m doses had been pre-ordered last year so it will be good to see it soon because supplies of AZ and Pfizer have dropped significantly.

I would definitely follow up on this and be alert to blood clot signs with those symptoms coming on suddenly.

I had AZ and a delayed allergic reaction, and I know those can present various ways so figured it was possibly worth mentioning. Made my blood pressure tank for days and my brain fog gets worse with that.

Jeffrey is going onto a ventilator for 2 weeks.  We were able to speak to him on the phone before they sedate him and do this.  Now we just wait. We shed a few tears this morning.
