Feeling depressed and having my wonderful cousin call me at 6AM to cheer me up - male cousin, no less!  I love it when someone knows you so well that they can just tell from a one sentence e-mail what you need.  :)

Just opened the door to the postman and he wished me a ''Happy Thanksgiving'' knowing I am American as he gave me my parcels.  ;D

Jessica has no school tommorrow (inset day) so I get to sleep in a little bit and then we're going to Natural History museum , V&A and skating. Plus tonight for some alternative turkey day fun Phil and I are going to see Juliette and the Licks with some mates ;D

Despite the cold and rain this morning I still dragged myself out to the 8K I run every Thanksgiving.  I ran a decent time considering I haven't run at all since the marathon 3 weeks ago and I got to see so many of my running club members.  It was a really nice way to start the day.

What a strange day, wavering between UP & IA...  I am thinking it's Thanksgiving so I'll take in some treats for the gang at work, hit the Pound Store on the way & pick up a few things.  Send an email:  'Yeah, it's Thanksgiving & you'd probably have the day off if you were in the States today.  Wish I were there.  But here's some grub for you all.'  (abbreviated, less humorous version of what I sent :))  Of course everyone flocks to the food right away - one guy says 'Hey I think I'm starting to like Americans after all.'  I'm wearing my grandmother's (antique) brooch - costume jewelry, but because it's Thanksgiving, it was my grandma's, and I have a job interview today.  All my happiest Thanksgiving memories have my grandma because she was everything to me as a child.  (She died last year age 104.)  So someone is admiring the brooch & starts to ask me about it, and I just totally lost it - burst into tears!  And then my co-workers are all patting & hugging me - and saying how glad they are to have me here now.

So I settle down, but then I have the job interview at 1, which is of course extremely nerve-wracking (and having to work in the meantime).  The interview itself - some questions I wasn't expecting, but I make it through alright I think.  Waiting to hear.  Find out I got the job - which then I don't know whether to cry (because I really like my job & my team right now) or celebrate because a promotion is a good thing.  And then people are starting to celebrate with me, and asking when we are going to celebrate proper.  Unbelievable day!
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Ohh Carolyn!!  I think in the end, it was a good day.  Your Grandma's spirit brought good things!

you'll be fine, I did the same thing a few months back.  Easy peasy.  Tube lines are labeled everywhere, you shouldnt have any problems!

Congratulations, Carolyn, and I completely understand the mix of emotions.  What a long and obviously meaningful life your grandmother led. That is truly cause for thanksgiving and celebration.

having a brilliantly fun night last night: went to see Juliette and the Licks at ULU with Phil's old uni mates. Phil's been busy and stressed out about work so I thought I would take him out for some fun..anyway we were all having a laugh and in comes Simon Pegg and one of Phil's mates is a film maker and the other mate is a "Spaced" Fan so in our JD bravado we go over to say how we like his work. I went up to him and said "My daughter everytime she saw the Shaun of the dead poster she would point and say oh look it's daddy" He laughed and then my mates said how Phil looks like the Shaun character. So Simon Pegg goes over to Phil and said "The fact that your daughter thinks I'm her father has made my day" shook Phil's hand and posed for a picture. Certainly cheered Phil up!
