One week before we arrive my parents let me know they are not going to "waste a vacation day"* to pick us up from the airport. The only reason we are flying in that day to JFK was because they said they wouldn't mind picking us up.

Now we have to take 2 trains, a subway, and one long bus ride, a total of a 6 hour journey after a 7 hour flight because neither of my parents don't feel like driving for 3 hours to pick up their daughter and son-in-law they haven't seen for more than 6 months.

* My mother, who is very capable of driving by herself, is a school teacher who HAS OFF ALL SUMMER. My dad gets 25 vacation days a year (more than DH & I) and has half day Fridays in the summer.

What about just getting a flight to Philly? (I am guessing that's where you are going since it's under your avatar there...) You might still be able to get something reasonable at this point. Maybe?

Or renting a car and driving yourselves?

Which line was that, k? The Red Line was running (better than usual) when I came in.

Blue line at about 6:15am.

The flights to Philly were 2x as expensive, so we wouldn't have been able to afford it. And our tickets are un-refundable  :-\\\\ I am guessing they wouldn't pick us up from there either (they live about hour and a half from PHL, public transport takes about 2+ hrs from there)

Since I have a car at my parents house, there is no point in renting for the whole time and one way from JFK is $200 from Hertz AFTER my dads employee discount. I'm too cheap. I'd rather pay someone $150 to pick us up. Luckily, we have a more dependable ride for the return flight!

Its not a terrible situation (Definitely an IA though!), I am just feeling emotional today & read it as my parents couldn't care less about spending one less day with me.:( My reply email may have been titled "I wonder who picked up the Menendez kids from the airport".*

I put my MatB1 form and my maternity leave notification in the inter-office mail last thursday and HR still hasn't received it. I now have to get a replacement from my midwife and hope I'm still with in the notification time frame for when I want to start my leave. Just a major frustration! I'm hand delivering the next one.

Orange still apparently doesn't believe I'm creditworthy in the UK, so I'm still on a PAYG phone.  I was talking to a buddy in the USA yesterday when I got the text that said I was almost out of credit.  I tried to send the add more money text back, but it said my card was declined.  We finished the rest of the conversation on Skype, which has terrible quality here in the countryside.

Anyway, over the ensuing 24 hours or so I tried a few more times to recharge my phone via text only to be denied each time.  I double checked the bank account to make sure there was enough money, and even called the bank to see if they could tell why I was getting declined.  The bank guy said, "Try calling them; we've been getting a lot of calls about text refusals over the last couple of days."

Sure enough, trying to top up using the voice response system instead of the text system worked like a charm on the first try.  How it's possible that the phone system - which asks for the same information that is provided in the text, only it takes longer to provide it - can give a different result than the text system is a problem I'm going to try hard not to contemplate.

They called to reschedule my hospital appointment this morning just before we left the house. I feel awful because apparently the nurse who was supposed to see me today broke her arm, and I still snapped at the woman who called and told her it was inconvenient for us to reschedule.  :-[ I've been on antibiotics and in pain for nearly 3 weeks, so I'm getting pretty cranky and sick of this situation. Plus I had already gotten up early and gotten ready and everything and DH had taken the morning off to take me and my MIL got up early and got ready to go with us, too, so it was pretty annoying. At least they rescheduled for tomorrow morning, so hopefully they won't cancel again.  :-[ Still, now I also feel terrible for being insensitive to someone else's problems.  :-\\\\

Aww Jewlz, (((hugs))).  Don't worry about it.  You're in pain. You're struggling. It's ok to snap. It shows you're human because you feel bad.  I know it sucks though.  :(
Hope tomorrow comes quick for you.  :-*

My IA is that I am covered in bruises from top to bottom because I keep smashing into boxes and furniture as I try to maneuver around stuff.  Some of them are quite painful too.  God help it if I need to strip naked for a doctor or anything!

Jewlz sorry to hear your apt was rescheduled for Tuesday I wouldn't be a happy bunny either if I had the problems you have been having an been told my apt was rescheduled. I wouldn't worry to much about being snippy under the circumstances its understandable.  ;)   Hope you feel better soon.  :)

So no sooner did my fiance fix the water pump when the toilet jammed. And in diagnosing the problem, at one point it geysered up all over his face... ughghghghghgh. At least he's determined that the £2000 toilet (specialist marine water-saving macerating wonder) is not the problem, but a pipe blockage further down that just requires a snake.

And then the water stopped working again, but once again my brilliant fiance saved the day and determined the problem to be a sticky non-return valve (that was probably the cause of the first pump meltdown last week), so he shoved a temporary plastic one in there so we at least have water while he gets a proper brass replacement.

And then last night I felt utterly rubbish and was confined to bed for most of the evening while I lay there thinking about all the things I needed to do.

What a rubbish weekend. I'm actually thankful it's Monday.

Oh, how maddening! I don't blame you one bit for snapping. Well, it probably just shows that they're not too worried about you -- otherwise, they'd have whipped you in sharpish. Better luck tomorrow.

I'm sorry Jewlz, fingers crossed you will see someone very soon!
Shugga, I found that our wii fit board is very sensitive about how it is placed in relation to the sensor...was it in the same place it always is?
SP, been there, done that with plumbing issues recently.
My IA is my Mother-I just can not get along with her.  She came in on the 29th of July and leaves on the 14th.

I know it sounds completely horrible (of me) but the times that I got along with my mother best was when she was (in the end) totally doolally in the nursing home.  :-[  (So I can relate!  Hope you're able to enjoy the rest of your summer after she goes home.)

I'm sorry to hear about everyone's troubles today - that just sucks, Jewlz.  I don't blame you for being snippy.  Shugga you are doing so well, wouldn't let what the Wii says bug you.  And SP, all the plumbing & toilet problems just stink.

My IA is kind of lame by comparison - on Saturday DH accidentally dropped and broke the glass carafe that goes with our electric drip coffeemaker.  (We have a cafetiere, so there is a real, not instant, coffee backup here - thank goodness!)  So he rang up the UK/European service centre today to order a replacement carafe for it - nope that Braun product has been discontinued for the UK & is no longer available here.  Then we went on Amazon.com to order it over from the US, but they won't ship that item to the UK!  WTF!  DH sends me a text:  'Why does Braun hate British people?'  :P

ETA:  Oh yeah, and DH left all the washing up from yesterday afternoon & evening for me to do.  This is normally his job, but it's no big deal - I do it sometimes.  There's a lot of it to be done though.  And I hate washing up.  Grumble grumble grumble.

You could always bring them over and we could run the dishwasher.   :P

Mine is finding out about an ex-friend's troubles. Makes me feel kinda down.  :(
