Friyay!

1.  Last Friday half day of “summer hours” and taking the kids to Paw Patrol at the cinema. Can’t think of ANYWHERE I’d rather be (sarcasm).   ;D

2.  Beautiful weather forecast this weekend and our friends invited us out on the boat Sunday.  They are currently moored up on the Thames by Hampton Court Palace. Sounds awful, doesn’t it?  YIPPEE!!!

3.  Kids start school Monday.  My BABY starts Reception!!!!

4.  Lots of appointments for kitchen and bathrooms. Must get things ordered this month!   :o

5.  I am contemplating an EXERCISE class. I think I won’t be able to move for weeks afterwards.  ;D

PB, are you die-hard outdoor cooking, no matter the weather, or do you have decent weather?  Our bank holiday didn't pan out as we'd hoped last weekend so we didn't get to do the outdoor cooking and basking in the garden that I'd been looking forward to (but we did spend a lot of time in the workshop, so that was okay).  I'm beginning to think we're just going to have to do it in the grey and yuck, so long as it isn't actual monsoon.

Albatross:  Happy birthday (whatever day it was)!  I assume it was in September, so you can continue celebrating your birthday month with me.  Yay, us!  We're leveling up!

KF, I need a guided exercise class... I completely lack self discipline, so I'd never exercise without the external motivator.  Now, with the pandemic, it's more important than ever, since I never go anywhere.  But right now, I can't... pandemic.  Oh, darn.  ;)

My five (if I can make up 5 things...):

1.  It's Birthday month!  And to kick off the month, my husband said he won't moan about anything I want to cook for dinner this week.  I'm making my family-favourite beef and vegetable soup, and I'll probably cry (with happiness) when I eat it.  (My husband does not view soup as a dinnertime meal, but making soup is more work than I can be bothered to do for lunchtime, so I haven't had it since I moved here.)

2.  I did not win anything from my Premium Bonds this month.  Boo.

3.  On Sunday last week, my husband and I went for a drive around our local area.  For all you people living your best lives and going on holidays and to see Paw Patrol at the cinema, and stuff: appreciate this for me.  It's only the third time I've left our property since March 10, 2020 (the other two times were for my vaccine doses).  We didn't go too far and we didn't make any stops, but I got to see something different for a bit, and I was smiling the whole time.

4.  Guitar: I have been working on patterned picking over chord changes lately, and my brain is finally starting to come to terms with the complexities of it.  Still, I don't know if I'm going to be where the people I see on Youtube are when I'm 30 years into this.  I don't feel on pace to reach that level of proficiency.  I really should practice more.

5.  This weekend's bread dough is doughing, and it's Friday afternoon.  I'm working on a meal plan for the no-moan dinner week and putting together a grocery shop for tomorrow delivery.... just need to remember what else I used to eat before I moved to the UK (that I'll be able to get ingredients for).  OH!  Oh oh oh!  We're gonna have deep-fried ravioli with marinara sauce.  Oh my gawd, yes we are.  My husband said anything I want, and I want that.  Yay!  I love Birthday Month!

That's awesome. You only need to reach that level of proficiency if you want to be a YouTuber in 30 years !  If you're making music for you, than do whatever you damn please  ;D

LOL, I live in the north of Scotland,  do you actually think we have decent weather for BBQing, like ever?  We're die hards!  ;D

Well, that's right up there with "if it sounds good, it is good."  Very well.  Go at my own pace, it is!

I was busy and forgot to post my Friday Five yesterday, but here they are now:

1) I was supposed to be getting on my plane home from the Falklands yesterday morning... instead I was in the office working another day shift. The flight went back to the UK with no passengers on it, due to lack of aircrew for the second leg, so I was bumped to Tuesday’s flight instead... which means that I’m stuck here an extra few days, and yesterday I had to watch my plane take off without me on it

2) I did have a much-needed hair appointment booked for Tuesday 7th but now I’ll have to wait until the 25th instead as the only day my stylist can fit me in (it’s been 11 months since I had a haircut as the hairdressers didn’t open again until 5 days after I left the UK in April)

3) I’ve had a really sore neck and shoulder for the last few days (due sleeping badly on the crappy mattress here)... and instead of being back in a nice bed at my parents’ house in the UK tonight, I have 3 more nights on the bad mattress .

4) However, one good thing about staying here a few more days is that I get to eat more of the really good cake from the coffee shop here on base

5) It also gives me more time for working out in the gym here before I go back home

Happy Friday, PB and everybody!

My five:

1.  Noms last week were hit and miss, but apart from my "family recipe soup", the ones I really wanted went over well.  We'll be keeping the stuffed bell peppers (with more peppers and cheese), and he liked my rice-a-roni copycat (except I accidentally overdid the salt a bit) and he is going to use the remaining salmon I trimmed and froze to try brining and smoking it... he hates fish, but he liked my salmon and wants to try some more!  Winning!

2.  We've been deliberately feeding birds magpies (and likely other creatures) in our garden, finally.  My husband wants proper feeders for the 50-pack of suet balls he had me buy last week.  Yay, birds!

3.  After today, just one more work week 'til Birthday Week!  I'm getting John Lewis Jr. (he joined our family last year on my birthday) a triangle.  Or bongos.  Hmm.

4.  Been working with the home oxygen nurse the last few weeks because I decided my condition was deteriorating a bit and they've been keen to come out since my annual check was due in January (I was worried about covid exposure, but now the risk-benefit analysis swung in favour of the home visit).  We were right to do the check, and now we're hopefully back on track.  But I have to go to the hospital on the 28th to do a proper ABG (wrist artery, rather than earlobe capillary).  I'm not excited about the exposure risk, but my capillary test results have been rather erratic, so we all want to put our minds at ease.  I tried to get other blood work done, too, but there's a vials shortage.  Can I just say: stupid pandemic!!!

5.  I'm about to start this weekend's bread.  Mmmm, bread (which is good, don't get me wrong, but I secretly just want it for putting butter on).

John Lewis Jr. (pictured below, on the right... he doesn't always wear glasses) is turning 1 soon!

Good luck, hope it goes well.

Thanks, Larrabee.  I'm cautiously optimistic that the precautions they've put in place will make it safe.  It's just a Very Big Deal for me to go in some place.

JF, I am hopeful you will find the hospital visit not quite as scary as you fear.  We've had to do one visit to GOSH in person for tests and WOW.  Safe to say no virus is going to live in the areas we were in.  It actually made things a little tough for us because we told our son he was going to get to play with toys, but NO TOYS.  Which of course makes sense... but.... hard.  A cartoon on a tv in the corner would have been helpful.   ;D

Message if you want some details of what it was like, may give you some comfort.

Friday, not Friyay

1.  Not having the best couple of weeks if I'm honest.  Life is a bit on top of me at the moment.

2.  Kids both at school which is great.  Older kid is able to join into (now-back-on) after school clubs which is great.  But means two pickups most days which is tough with work.

3.  Husband has returned to the office as his work is getting critical (building site) and it's a vital government job so he will be on site regardless of work from home orders.

4.  Really struggling to get things lined up for the extension with work, kids, activities, and "trades" being office hours.  Would be fine if I wasn't working, just really hard to get the appointments in around work.

5.  Insomnia is always part of my life but been especially bad lately due to so many changes and so much on my mind.  I really miss having a kitty to cuddle with when I'm awake at night.  Looking forward to Hendricks joining us but I know he will not be cuddly for a few years yet.  Unless he's a super duper lazy kitten!   ;D  A search for a friend for Hendricks continues.  We are a bit fearful that we will end up with ALL the cats.  Husband seems to be pushing the number up from 2!  I can blame him right?   ;D
