And they had some gorgeous little packs (8 cookies) of round lebkuchen mit schokolade -- gingerbread with chocolate on the bottom and a grainy-sugar glaze on top.  OMG... they're amazing!
I'm on my 3rd packet since they started stocking them.

The dark chocolate circles with the tiny sprinkles are my kids favorite at the moment.  I had one (for parental quality control reasons) and have to say they are quite nice.
I buy them for the wee man. He manages to get a few. Lord knows what happens to the rest.

But that is a bad bad place for those of little resistance. Heck it's bad bad place at the best of times, but at this time of year...well all I can say is the Germans know what they're doing when it comes to food and cars.
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

i expected them to be 'okay'... i wasn't ready for the sheer brilliance!   Maybe it was because it was quite a cold day yesterday and i was eating them in the car, but the sugar glaze on top was quite crispy and grainy (sugar granules) and it was just... YUM!!   That glaze makes all the difference!   Gotta go get some more...

Dangit! You all talked me into a trip to Lidl to try the lebkuchen mit schokolade---oh my yum!  This may just be my new Christmas weakness (well that and the gazillion mince pies I'm bound to eat).  I remember seeing these but not trying them last year.  I rarely buy store bought cookies, but these I will gladly buy again!

They also had bags of thin pretzel sticks.  I haven't seen pretzels around here before.  I'm snacking on them now (with the gingerbread cookies in-between).  This was a nice Lidl day!

Now, how to explain all the bags of treats I bought to DH, to whom I've been complaining all week that I need to lose weight . . .

oh, and they had leftover bottles of the hot-dog flavoured ketchup--"American Style!"  I hope people don't think we really eat like that.  Blech!

oh yeah, i forgot to mention i bought those... they're called 'salt sticks' which made me laugh!  Pretzels, however, can also be found in Tesco.  I think the brand is called 'Penn State'... they're the small crispy ones, like the sticks, not the nice fat bread-y ones.

Crusti Croc Salt Sticks - that makes it even funnier.

They have a cereal there now which makes a great sweet snack.  It's called something like Nougat Pillows and is chocolate hazelnut cream filled biscuits.  I can't bring myself to consider eating a whole bowl of it with milk for breakfast, but it's a good nibble.

I saw those the other day! No way would I eat them as cereal, but it didn't occur to me to just snack on them. I might have to go back to Lidl!

And if you tell me you're following all that with a chocolate covered marzipan bar, then I will start to believe in parallel universes.  ::)
