I voted British / likes both.  And it should be done EXACTLY as QG says (though replacing bread with crumpet is permitted).  i think many people don't like it because they slap it on too thickly, but when it is mixed with butter on hot toast it is lush.

Bovril started off as meat extract, then went to being a yeast extract, and has gone back to being meat now.  This sucks, as I used to love a mug of hot Bovril at half time at football and I can't have it anymore.

The first time I had marmite, my housemate here in the UK stuck a spoon in her jar, and said, "here, try this, you'll love it."   :P

I love marmite, always have.  (It's always been a normal supermarket item in Canada).  I can just eat it straight.. and it's useful for flavouring vegetarian dishes, too.  (esp. for french onion soup and 'gravy').  I see no reason why it wouldn't make a good hot drink like bovril.

Peanut butter is OK sometimes.  With marmite.

Marmite *is* great as a hot drink, but I am yet to petition the football league to change their habits and switch drinks just for me  ;)

Oh, they *sell* Bovril at matches?  Didn't know.. thought you took it in a thermos.  Will try a hot marmite drink soon!

It does. It is also a good flavour enhancer for gravies and stews.

I ate black pudding, didn't like it and refused to eat it when I heard what was in it.

When I first visited Madame Contrex's parents in Wigan (Lancashire) they took us out to a pizza place, and guess what was one of the toppings available?

Yes they do, but I've never seen the fascination of drinking a cup of gravy! I have seen people make a hole in their pie and then pour the bovril in though.

On to Marmite v PB, I like them both as does DW.

Marmite and Blackcurrent are the flavours of the devil. They are what evil tastes like.  ICK.  They should be banned.

Yes.  ;D  I love peanut butter and I hate marmite.

Although my American children embraced Ribena from the moment they arrived on these shores, they rejected Marmite no matter how much my husband tried to persuade them it was marvelous.  My eight year old son said, "You can say whatever you want, but we have tongues and we can taste that it's awful, so you'll never convince us."
