Puh-leez!  ::) In any case, 500,000 "Chinese" would be considerably less than 1% of the population, and wouldn't make any difference. Where do you get these, frankly, racist ideas from?

There are about 250,000 Americans living in Britain, Do they dilute the British "culture"?

I have to say that I agree with Contrex.

Attack the idea, not the person.  Posts edited to reflect that.

Maybe its the comments that people make that are being remarked about? and people did not make these comments when the person was living here years ago. Just a thought.

There is a difference between X-thousand immigrants being spread evenly around the country and the same number being concentrated primarily in a few specific places.  I think this is what many people notice, seeing an entire neighborhood change character drastically in a relatively short time due to the sheer numbers of people who have completely different cultures.

A friend of mine moved from London to Bath for the very reason the the OP asked about.

People are saying thinking and saying these things and the fact that the OP brought it up is simply a reflection of that.

...the whole damn thing will turn
and return redefined, rearranged, rearranged...

I love the peirogies at Tesco please don't take them away.

Aha! I knew I had seen pierogies in the UK. My husband had never heard of them.

Before the holocaust, Poland had a very large Jewish population, so a lot of Jews have Polish ancestry, so there is overlap between Polish and Jewish cooking.

England is a country of immigrants, and has been that way for long before there was a country called "England".  English culture is a culture formed by intermingling of people from other lands, not only by war, colonialism, and trade, but by migration.

This is nothing new.

ETA: I am a little surprised there are people in the US or UK who've never had peirogies.  So awesome.

Are you gonna make your own dough or buy wrappers? And promise to post pics!

ETA: Erm, nevermind. I just remembered who I was asking. :)

I just want to point out something from the OP's post

Now I know London is an international city, but do nonwhite British and immigrants (all racial backgrounds) really seem to out number white British?

Looks like the original question that S2BEX-PAT posted was about race just as much as immigration.  I think I like the pierogies conversation better.
