February-Prague
March-Amsterdam
April-Vegas
October-Jamaica
December-Alabama

And hopefully some continental long weekends in between.

Wow! Lucky you!  :D I wish we were taking that many holidays this year!

The in-laws are in the heart of Arcadiana, so we'll be in deepest, darkest, swampiest Cajun country for Mardi Gras. The festivals are nearly as large in scale as New Orleans, but less touristy. Some of the local traditions (that I've only heard about, but have been invited to this time) sound quite barmy.

@Phatbeetle: DOWN to Fife. Boy oh boy, you sure are north! DH is desperate to see Scotland, so we've got a Highlands roadtrip on our radar for some time before the winter snows set in.

It's a good job I've got a new holiday year starting in April, lol. I can see my allowance being eaten up just in chauffeuring DH around the things he's always wanted to see. Thankfully I managed to get my request in early on the Royal Wedding "11 days off for the price of 3", so we'll be going somewhere in April, maybe that would be a good time to visit the Highlands?

Heeewwwww wwwweeeeee! That sounds like fun.  ;D I'm from Texas, but my grandma and her family is from Northern Louisiana (True Blood country... lol) and I've been to a few places down south, New Orleans and around there, but nowhere that was as intriguing as you just described!  :P I absolutely loved Lake Charles when I was there. Louisiana is so full of life and people just love to party!  ;D

I'm married to a Geordie and I told him that essentially, Cajuns are like the Geordies of America, as no one else knows what the heck they are talking about.  :P

Back to the US on Wednesday for a week.  I didn't get home for Christmas, so this is the substitute.  That's probably it for travel for the next 6-9 months.  At 28 weeks pregnant, I'm running out of time!

We're thinking of finally getting up to the northeast (probably Seahouses) in May or maybe June.  Taking advantage of me being on maternity leave and not tied to school holidays.

Then thinking April 2012 going to Newport RI over Easter break and seeing family.

We are making up for the fact that we didn't get any last year. We have no visas to pay for in 2011 and I am working so we have some expendable income. Im so excited to get to see Europe again!

We've just booked our summer hols to the Perpignan region of France which is southeast on Mediterranean coast. We're staying close to the beach and have a day trip into Spain planned. As we're driving, we plan on taking our time coming home and stopping over two or three additional nights somewhere along the way that catches our fancy.

Cruise to Barcelona, Roma, Genoa, Casablanca, Canary Islands in March
Sevilla in April for Holy Week
Planning a WWII tour (Amsterdam, Normandy, Paris ?Berlin ?Brussels) in May - any suggestions?
Greece in June
South of France in July

Got to squeeze as much in as I can before heading back to the states in August! :)

Then I will be broke, with no vacation time, and owing tons of favors to my colleagues.  Wah, wah (Debbie Downer sound).

Any advice on where to go in late April? Looking for warm and an even combination of activities (golf, hiking, etc), beach/pool, sightseeing and nightlife. Preferably not Canaries as bf has done them. I'm still in the states but will be in Notts by then. BF is SOOOO not into planning travel and I'm log jammed at work for another month.

Just beware - late April this year in the UK is the Royal Wedding "11 days off work for just 3 days booked" for most office workers and a lot of others too. It's a freak of bank holidays coinciding, and is likely to mean mass movement of British people around and out of the country. All kinds of craziness is likely to happen to prices, some will skyrocket (for sure, London), some will crash - but who knows where? The travel industry doesn't know yet.

And the smartest among us have already booked everything for the great 11 day holiday. :) Have you started plugging in possible places on the travel website to see where the prices are for these dates yet? That might be the biggest deciding factor...

We've batted around a few ideas about a 'proper' honeymoon somewhere.  We had a couple nice weekends in Chicago while he was here, but it's not quite the same.

To be honest, there are so many thinks right in the UK that I've always wanted to see, that I'd rather do short breaks to those than a really long trip elsewhere.  Maybe once I've crossed off my top 10, we'll leave the country. :)  Also, there are a lot of (relatively) local music festivals and the like, and I'd really like to hit some of those.  I'm hoping to make it to Barra Fest this summer, even if it's just a day trip.

If & when we do go abroad, my husband would like to see Scandinavia ('it's like here, but nicer') and Amsterdam.  I'm kind of lukewarm about either; I'm sure they'll be interesting, but I'd never thought 'I must go before I die.'  Also, I'm vaguely uncomfortable traveling anyplace where I can't at least read the language, though that's easily remedied, at least.

At some point, I definitely want to take my husband to Spain.  If we do nothing else, he has to see Grenada.  Thing is, last time I was there, I was 17 and in rather better shape than I am now.  And even then, a day of climbing all those hills and stairs wore me out.  So, this plan's definitely on the back-burner until I've gotten back into shape. :p

Of course, when the time comes that we actually have the time & money to go on holiday, I know I'm going to be far more inclined to go home and see my family.

I imagine London prices will skyrocket during the Royal Wedding.  :o

So DH, I and some friends booked tickets to Bangkok on Etihad for £490/ea over the 'freak coinciding of bank holidays' - 2.5 weeks of Thai beaches, can't wait! £10/nt in a cabana, 50p beers and food for £1! Pure chilling on the cheap ;D

Dang those two...why do they have to get married during a school break!  ;D

Greece is looking like the option. With a connector out of EMA to avoid London.

Thanks! I'm sure I'll be back for more advice.

We've revamped our holidays for the year again & again - lol!  But finally have these plans relatively firmly made:

Easter Week - we decided to scrap the Eastern Europe rail trip because there just weren't enough days to do all that we wanted (ferry to the Netherlands, then rail to Berlin, Dresden, Wroclaw, Krakow, with a stop in Amsterdam coming or going) - we need at least two weeks for that, so next year!  Instead we are going self-catering to the Welsh coast at Pembrokeshire (St Bride's Bay area) for a week then.  This one is booked - yay!

In June - Walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way over a week - still to be organised.

In July - A week's self-catering with the in-laws in the Cotwolds.  (The Guernsey idea for September was scrapped.)  Best part - I'll get to escape & go play with Tin while we're there!  This one is booked - yay!

And in October - two weeks in the USA for my niece's wedding (in Baltimore/Washington area) plus maybe a side trip to New York City.

We still have some leave days apart from that to be used, so that gives us scope for time off at/around Christmas/New Years, maybe some long weekend trips, or DIY-at-home days.  :P
