Sorry guys but going back to the last email received from Sheffield below that I posted previously....

Thank you for your enquiry.
Please note that this application has been delayed due to additional checks outside our department. Therefore, we have no control over these delays. We appreciate your patience at this time, and will update you as and when we have any additional information.

If you have any further enquiries, please visit our website at www.GOV.UK

Kind Regards

Referring to the ‘additional checks outside our department’ specifically.

Would it be totally remiss of me to think that it’s likely that at least the main criteria ‘financial, accommodation, relationship’ In our application they are satisfied with? And as mentioned before most likely confirming the child custody or misdemeanour from all those years ago is all okay?

After a month of BDs since the not straightforward email anything resembling a likelihood of positivity is welcome! Lol

Honestly?  I cannot read anything from the email they sent.

My gut - which could be 100% wrong - is that the child custody element is what has flagged the application as "not straight forward".  I suspect the Entry Clearance Officer is flagged it up to his/her supervisor and/or a legal team to review the current documentation to see if it satisfies their requirement.  Again, this is just me speculating based on tighter controls around granting visas to minors.

That's what my guess is too.

If you like, you can extrapolate from that, that they wouldn't bother looking into the custody arrangement if they were going to refuse you on other grounds.  :)

Thanks guys...as always appreciate your time and thoughts.

Well IF it is that then I’m happy because the better half has done everything correctly through the local family court, all custody paperwork is original, in order and the actual intended move to the UK is written in there in black and white, stamped by the court and signed as acknowledged by the Bio father.

However IF a refusal came on these grounds it would be very worrying because there is nothing more she can do in relation to ‘custody’ than what she’s done!!

1.  You'll need to demonstrate that you and your partner meet the financial requirements again, but this time you can use your income.

2.  You'll need the same type of accommodation proof.

3.  To prove the relationship, you'll show 6 joint items of mail to the same address over the previous 2 year period (one every 4 months).  If you don't have joint, you submit 12 individual, or a combination of the two.  What this means is DO NOT GO PAPERLESS ON ANYTHING and SAVE EVERY ITEM OF MAIL UNTIL THE END OF TIME.   ;D ;D ;D

4.  Save your pennies.  The visas and fees are getting more expensive every year (roughly a 25% increase each year).  Definitely budget for each visa.

Excellent, Thanks so much for this.

So just to clarify, the financial requirements is now to meet 18600 annually between the two of us? (we relied on savings alone first time around.)

Going to take a while for us to figure out how to get six separate mail items since we don't own a house yet. We'll be living with family until we're able to do so (hopefully asap.)

If you don't have the money earmarked for something, it's much easier just to use the savings requirement each time. It also removes any worry about anyone loosing their job.  :)

I've lived here for almost a year now. I get lots of mail here now... from my GP, bank, work pension scheme, DVLA, organ donor scheme, blood donation scheme, HRMC...

Been there, done that! That's why I always keep a copy of the entire application so that I can check it and get back to bed all the sooner! And I'm not kidding even a little bit! ;D

I don’t think I’ll ever get over this process, I could be 80 with citizenship and wake up yelling, “did we space the mail four months a part?!”

I got citizenship last month and I'm still finding it very hard to not hoard all the mail!  ;D
